GM ditching CarPlay & Android Auto for Google-built infotainment system
I have driven a Buick since 2007 - one new, then a used one. I would love to have CarPlay in my vehicle. I absolutely abhor the subscription model. I dropped both OnStar and Serius XM radio because they used subscriptions. I will never subscribe to Apple Music because of the monthly payment. I know, you probably think I am an old curmudgeon. I am older but I do have the dollars to buy a new vehicle and GM just lost all chance of me buying a new Buick. I won't even comment on the gathering of personal data other that to say I will never permit it when I have a choice. Incredibly bad move GM! -

EU law will force Apple to blow open its entire hardware and software stack
In their own jurisdiction the EU is perfectly entitled to pass whatever laws they think their citizenry will obey. However, there is one aspect of this proposed legislation that is illegal and immoral. The EU does not have the right to levy fines on any company's WORLD WIDE revenue or income. They are only legally entitled to level such fines on revenue or income produced in their jurisdiction!!! -

Apple to pay $3.4M in Chile to settle planned obsolescence lawsuit
This is ridiculous! Smartphone hardware is still being modified/added to - a sign that we are still in the Growth phase of product development. In that phase, the product is changing so rapidly that no company needs planned product obsolescence - the industry itself is changing so fast as to make planned obsolescence totally unnecessary!
