This is not really a sign of implosion. Apple do well selling their products in store, given Apples own online platform and many other online options. Personally I buy my Apple products from U.K. online retailer “John Lewis”, as they offer their own 1 year extended warranty .

 I must be one of the luckiest IOS device owners ever because I never have the battery drain issues that people report with almost every update release.  

I never experienced battery drain either , convinced that is paranoia, as it is claimed on every release. Paranoia like this is the reason drug companies use placebos.

Sometimes Apple change designs to regain control and profits  of the accessories market. At least for a while until the fake companies make new ones. Personally I would not want a change, I spent ages buying 6 straps.
