  • Photographers share stunning photos shot on iPhone XS

These photos are being savaged on MacRumors as horrendous, sub par, and downright ugly. “Fake Bokeh” is the watch word of the day!

Be honest, if you weren’t told would you know these were taken with an XS vs an X? There wasn’t a huge camera hardware upgrade this year so I’m not surprised the photos aren’t blow away better than the X. I’ll be interested to see how they compare to the next Pixel phone. Tech press was raving about its camera last year. I think The Verge said it was superior to both iPhone and Galaxy cameras.
To be honest, there is a bit of a too soft of an edge to the object in the front, so yes, I can see it. But, I can also see that the bokeh is quite good.
In 2005, it would take me about 10min-1hr to create a depth mask to match the quality of this Z-mask in those iPhone photos. And the latter is calculated in milliseconds in real time. I will take it, over spending 1 hr for a single shot! Life is too short for that cr*p! Yes, just like auto-stiching panoramas, they do have glitches sometimes, but I don't want to spend 1-2 hrs making one panorama manually. I would rather have a less perfect pano taken in 1-2 seconds, again, for the same reason - more time for me to so stuff I want.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 9 blows up in purse, victim sues

Wake me when it's happening to over 1% or so. Maybe 10%. These things are just going to happen.

happening to 1% or 10% of devices? Are you crazy? This is not going to happen!
The phone would have to be subjected to a "voluntary" recall by the feds long before it can hit even 0.01%, if the cause is found to be a manufacturing/design defect.
1% of of 10M devices is 100k cases of Note9 exploding.
Nah, that is unrealistic, given that the previous model was pulled after, something like, 2-3 dozen of those cases happening...which would be roughly 0.0003%, (nowhere near 1%).

After reading this article I still can't understand the issues.

Some posters are making borderline paranoid comments about censorship in this circumstance. Unless you think it could be used to censor reviews? Copyright doesnt' apply to political criticisms.
Really? If someone posts a meme to mock a political leader, and the meme has something copyrighted, then it becomes illegal. How is that paranoid?
Good point. Popular meme's, particularly political ones, may be some of the first copyright casualties under this new law assuming it passes without any changes, which is apparently the expectation.
And I mean, why would anyone be conserned about nasty political memes...?    /s
Except that this IS the whole point of why there is this free speech thingy in the first place - to be able to criticize anything and everything in order to have peaceful feedback loop, for correcting the course of where a society is going, without the need for violence!
If this law passes, memes will be the first to go... in fact, memes aside, free speech will be the first caualty of this law. Of course, it will be a small part of free speech to go, at first. But, if you are trying to be smart about usurping power, you never do that in one big motion. Instead, chipping away is the best way, as it is slow enough for the victim not to notice it...until it is too late.

  • Apple debuts 5.8-inch iPhone XS and 6.5-inch iPhone XS Max with OLED screens

Trying so hard to be excited. It’s just not “magical” anymore. Loads of meh...
You will find that to be the case with a lot of things in life, with every passing second of your life. Everything has its “first time”. It is impossible to do everything every day for the first time every time. But, i bet a lot of people understand that, and are simply looking for something better, instead of “something new”.
