  • Apple has radically expanded its remote learning & device management advice

It’s still a puzzle to me as to why Apple ceded the education software (and platform) market to companies like Canvas and Zoom.

    It is huge market.

I totally agree - and have been saying so for awhile now.

In addition the conferencing type systems there's also (as mentioned in the article):
" Apple recommends Google G Suite for Education, Microsoft Office 365, and conferencing tools from Cisco WebEx and Zoom Cloud Meetings."

So, if the school is basically running outside of Apple's ecosystem with Google, Microsoft and Cisco/Zoom products doing the heavy lifting, why mess with Apple products at all?   It does not appear that they contribute much to the effort -- particularly when the tax payers are shelling out for the the Apple premium.

If they are going to be running mostly or entirely non-Apple products, they're better off simply buying cheap laptops rather than $1,000 MacBooks (and no, for most uses the iPad are nice but not functional enough -- especially without adding a keyboards and mice).

Apple would have better served itself and the education system (and its kids) if it had invested in establishing a viable remote education system (hardware, software, support, etc...) rather than passing out free money to stockholders which not only drains working capital from the organization but contributes nothing to anybody but the stockholders.

FaceTime is totally useless unless you are talking to your family in a personal context. I would consider FaceTime, only if it allowed admin to create classes where teachers did not have to add students one by one every time they have a class to teach and met the kids. Schoolwork can be taken a step further, offering more functionality like FaceTime integration as well as SIS  where teaching staff could start a lesson and finish without having to anything else. Appel claims education is at their core and but current situation we are facing now is showing otherwise.
