  • Apple plans second iMac G4-like smart home device

If this “mini G4” is basically Apple’s new HomePod speaker + Screen + Apple Intelligence then I’m in. Sad though that we won’t see it until 2026. Sad too that it will likely cost $1000. It really needs to be here spring 2025 and cost half that.
The “mini G4” concept would be the cheaper new version, as I read the story. It’s the “robotic arm with larger screen” version that is rumored to cost $1000 and arrive in 2026. The photo of the iMac G4 was a little misleading because that is not exactly what it would look like. It would resemble the base, but the device would be way smaller and I don’t think it will look like the photo of the G4. I think the price will be $499 or less.

  • iPhone 16 gets super fast wireless charging, with the right MagSafe cable

To clarify, is this version of the MagSafe charger different than the previous version?  I don’t immediately sss a delineation on the Apple Store page link above.  Normally Apple will call it “first gen” or “second gen” or show which phone models are compatible with new features.

Just curious if I need to buy a new charger cable or use my older one with a faster brick.

When Apple Watch moved to fast-charging, it required a new puck and, of course, a charger brick that could deliver the fast-charging wattage. The new puck was cosmetically different, so you could tell it apart from the old puck, but otherwise seemed identical to the old one. I would imagine it's going to be the same for iPhone--new puck required for fast-charging but any charger will do so long as it can deliver the fast-charging wattage. It would honestly suck if you had to buy Apple's 30W charger for this, since we're awash in excellent, inexpensive and small chargers that can deliver those watts, a product that I'd bet most people already own.
Now I know for sure. Yes, you do need a new MagSafe puck. Only the new ones are available from Apple so there is no concern about getting the wrong one. Apple currently only sells the 20 watt power adapter, so you would actually need to get the 30 watt adapter from a 3rd party seller.

Okay, I guess I was misremembering.

  • iPhone 16 has a new Camera Control button -- Here's everything it can do

It would only be a gimmick for people who don't use the camera app very often. For people who do use the camera app often, it's amazing. It is way faster and simpler to just press a button to access the camera. If this is a gimmick, then I guess that MagSafe is also a gimmick. I wouldn't want to be without MagSafe, and I wouldn't want to be without instant camera access either.

This story is not correct. I ordered the Milanese Loop with my Series 10, so it's not true that it can only be ordered with the Ultra. Also, why would it add $199 to the cost of the Ultra when the band only costs $99. Also, it only added $50 to the cost of my Series 10. The base price of my Series 10 Titanium is $749. Ordering the Series 10 Titanium with the Milanese Loop, brings the total to $799, which is the base price for the Ultra. It's a trade-off. The titanium case and sapphire glass make it extra durable and scratch resistant, but it's also much thinner than the Ultra and even has a slightly larger screen.
