  • Tim Cook says AR & VR will be revolutionary, but the public will need education

    mobird said:
Cook is needing to be more specific regarding AR in these types of conversations and interviews. He seems to be very nuanced and vague as well as assuming that AR is understood and the concept is grasped and comprehended. You ask ten people what is AR and you likely will get ten different interpretations. Out in the public domain there are many interprerations, right and wrong on what AR is actually.
Maybe Apple needs to do a media campaign prior to launch explaining all that is AR to seperate the wheat from the chaff so to speak.
I imagine eveyone at Apple is leaving no stone un-turned in development of this platform, it will be eciting to watch it unfold!
    IMHO
You are saying that Tim Cook assumes that AR is understood and the concept is grasped and comprehended, but the headline specifically says “but the public will need education.” So that doesn’t sound like he is assuming anything to me. Speaking for myself, I’m one of the ones who will need to be educated. I cannot visualized this world that Tim is describing. I could visualize the internet that we have today back in the early 90’s. But I can’t visualize this. I don’t get it unless AR doesn’t mean what I think it means. Like for example, one person said that AR is the rhythmic thumping of the Apple Watch. That’s not what I think of as AR. So I don’t know, I guess I’ll find out in a few years why AR is so essential that we can’t live without it.

  • iPhone 15 Pro Max could turn into 'Ultra' in fall 2023 updates

Is nomenclature really al that important or even interesting?
    Yes, yes it is.
I agree, except for the word interesting. Nomenclature is very important because Max denotes size vs. Ultra sounds like it would be fundamentally different. That would be very very bad for me. I felt so left out when the larger size 12 Pro had more features than the smaller 12 Pro. I don’t know why I need to have the largest size in order to have a fully featured phone. I don’t want a phone that is too big to fit in my front jeans pocket. But I also don’t want a phone that is less than, so I hope this rumor is wrong.

  • Mozilla rampages over a lack of browser choice

Why do I keep hearing about these same stupid stories since the 90’s. By the way, I’m criticizing the message, not the messenger. If people are not using Firefox, then that is Mozilla’s problem. People can download and use whatever browser they want. There was a time when IE was dominate, then Firefox got really big, and now most people use Chrome. Mozilla should stop complaining and build a better browser. People can use whatever browser they want. They are not forced against their will to use any specific browser. How is it that Chrome is the dominate browser when the vast majority of people are using a Microsoft OS? Maybe it’s because more people like Chrome better than Edge. Stop complaining and build a better browser. I know I said that twice but it’s just so common sense. Stop blaming others for your own problems.

  • iPhone 14 Pro review: The best power & camera to cost balance

I'm not expecting to be able to use the always-on display. I went through such an aggravating time with my phone calling my emergency contact while mowing my lawn. I tried a few different things before finally deleting my emergency contact information. Then, after a month, I decided to add the emergency contact back in and try one final idea. I turned off both the raise to wake and tap to wake features. Bingo. No more inadvertent calls to my emergency contact. But now I have to actually press the sleep/wake button in order to turn on my phone. But for me it's worth it to avoid all of the aggravation with inadvertent calls. It seems like it must be only happening to me because I never hear complaints about it.

  • Compared: Apple Watch Series 8 versus new Apple Watch SE

I know that everyone has different priorities but for me, I wouldn’t even consider the SE because the always-on display is critically important to me.
Curious what is critically important that you need AOD?  I have an SE and my eyeballs can't see it in any other direction than face up.  When I do that, the screen comes on instantly.  When I tilt my wrist back down, the screen goes off, saving battery.
When I’m exercising and my arm is down and I need to see the time. Raise to wake works very spotty for me. I have gotten very frustrated when raising my wrist and it doesn’t come on right away and so I raise my wrist a bunch of times to get it to come on and then I start yelling at my watch. My eyes can see the clock when my arm is down and I just twist my left arm to the right. But I guess everyone is different.
