  • What's coming in iOS 18 -- and what will wait until iOS 18.1

    • Siri will offer a richer understanding of the user's queries. It can also be connected up to ChatGPT, with the latter capable of handling queries on behalf of the user instead of Siri.
I’m curious, right now if I ask Siri a “world knowledge” question I will frequently get a response that cites information from Wikipedia or some other website. Will that still work under iOS 18.1 or will that be a thing of the past and if I have a “world knowledge” question I’ll have to enable ChatGPT queries?
My understanding is that you will be able to use Siri just like you typically do now and that the Apple Intelligence stuff and ChatGPT are only an option for those who want it.

    You really need Apple Intelligence.
I have no idea what his sentence even means. To me it just looks like random words strung together.

  • Apple all-in on struggling Matter, to the detriment of HomeKit Accessory Protocol

Why only name 2 devices with Thread support? All kinds of devices are coming out with it from all kinds of different companies like Google and Amazon for example. Before long the majority of households will have Thread Border Router equipped devices without even realizing it. It is absolutely not crap. It’s essential in my opinion. The Schlage Encode Plus has 2 options available. WiFi and Thread. Using Wifi, you get maybe a couple of months worth of battery life versus over a year of battery life using Thread. I chose Thread because I don’t want to keep changing batteries every couple of months. That’s why my August Smart Lock turned into a Dumb Lock. I got sick and tired of changing batteries all the time so I reverted back to using it as a normal lock. WiFi is way too power hungry.

  • Consumers prefer Apple Watch Series 9 over SE and Ultra models

The Ultra is too big.  Honestly, my 45mm 7 is too big.

But the only way I'd get a 9 is by picking it up in Canada, pulse ox being missing is unacceptable.
If the 45mm size is too big, then why didn’t you get the 41mm size? It’s the same watch other than the smaller form factor that you prefer.

I prefer the Ultra. I used to trade in my Watch every year but the Ultra is too expensive so I still have the original. I might trade in my original for the gen 3 model if it’s compelling enough for me. I have always felt very bummed out regarding how scratched up the watch faces get. I feel so much happier now that my watch face doesn’t have scratches on it.
