  • Apple Vision Pro earns prestigious Black Pencil design award

DOA until it becomes a pair of sunglasses.

No one wants to wear a helmet  just to compute.

The experience is not much different than meta quest as-is.

Apple basically saw the quest, then spec’s higher, but also went backward with the brick battery that you have to carry around separately. Big whoop.

As sunglasses, it’s much more the Apple ethos of getting out of the way of your life.

Most folks carry a phone out of habit. Most weat shades as a habit. Most wear a watch, etc.

no body suctions a face-hogging, head-strapping thing on their face/head outside of scuba divers. It’s annoying, cumbersome, takes you out of your every day life and can really only be enjoyed in bursts. Not as a continuum of your daily life. That’s why it fails.

Black pencil or no, it’s not a success.

Let’s see how that fares once it’s distilled into shades. I’m betting that’s a whole new paradigm.
What you are describing is not VR. It’s not possible to have VR with a pair of sunglasses. It’s not possible to have VR without the complete sealing out of external light.

  • Your next iPhone could be the iPad mini - iPhone 15 vs iPad mini showdown

I have never considered buying an iPad mini. I have always thought of the standard iPad as a mini. In my opinion the iPhone Max is way too big and even the 6.1" is on the verge of being too big. I want my iPhone to reside in my front jeans pocket. I mostly use my iPad for internet stuff and I feel that even the standard iPad is too small for that. I jumped at the opportunity for a 12.9" iPad and I will never want anything smaller than that. Maybe if I were a woman I would want an iPad mini because I could stick it in my purse. I notice a lot of people putting their iPhones in their back pocket, but that never made sense to me, and I would never do that. Basically, my device buying decisions are completely governed by screen size. screen size is extremely important to me. I need a small phone and a large iPad.

I'm expecting that at some point in the future, Apple Vision Pro will replace my iPad. That day has not yet arrived, but I'm expecting that it will within the next couple of years. Maybe when we finally get solid-state batteries. The battery issue is my main hesitancy to Apple Vision Pro.

  • UK rushes through Digital Markets Act copycat to regulate mostly US big tech

I feel so frustrated that Apple doesn't just say "Fuck Europe". There is no monopoly. The U.S. Congress is also trying to say that Apple is a monopoly. That's ridiculous. A monopoly is like when I want to subscribe to cable TV and my only option is Spectrum. If I want cable TV, then I only have one choice and that's it. That's a monopoly. Apple should be able to run their "store" how they feel fit. It's their store. Is the government trying to tell Walmart what they can or cannot put in their store? Are they trying to dictate to Walmart what prices they can charge? If you are not happy with Apple's business practices, then buy a phone from one of a dozen other manufacturers. No one is forcing you against your will to buy an Apple device.

  • iPhone 16 demand driven by AI induces Wedbush to hike Apple stock target

Well maybe I'll be upgrading my phone after all. I was thinking I wouldn't because of the bigger size rumor and I don't want a bigger phone. But it seems like this will be a pretty big upgrade. The rumors do tend to be accurate or mostly accurate.
