  • DOJ gearing up to sue Google over digital ad market dominance

It never occurred to me that Google was doing anything wrong. It seems like they go way overboard on this anticompetitive stuff. If the consumer is not being harmed then I don’t think they should worry about it. Just like Google being dominant  in search. The government can’t claim that Google is preventing other search engines from operating. If people are not choosing the other search engines then that’s not Google’s fault. Just like they were so upset that Internet Explorer came preloaded onto Windows. It wasn’t Microsoft’s fault that people chose not to download something else.

  • Apple Watch Series 8's S8 chip may not be a big upgrade from S7

Correct me if my memory is wrong, but wasn’t the S7 a negligible update over the S6? And wasn’t the S5 almost the same as the S4? Apple hasn’t exactly made all that much progress with the S-series System-in-Packages for the Apple Watch in quite a while. Not faulting them, as I am almost totally ignorant of this stuff, but … yeah, it’s not a big surprise that the S8 isn’t going to be much of an improvement, but it also is a little disappointing.
Not in my opinion. My first watch was the S4 I I felt very disappointed and I hardly ever wore it. mainly because the screen kept going dark and Raise to Wake and Tap to Wake were not very good solutions for me. The S5 was crucial for me because the screen stayed on all the time, although the screen seemed too dark for me.  Going from the S5 to the S6 was an even bigger jump. The screen was 2 ½ brighter when it was face down which addressed my biggest complaint with the S5. It was also 20% faster and had a U1 chip. There was also a pretty big jump between the S6 and the S7. The S7 saw another 20% speed boost and a substantial increase in display size. The larger display size is what I was most interested in. The S7 also received a better charger and cable. But if the rumors are true then I probably will skip the S8.

  • Texas boy's 31 cheeseburger order demonstrates why you should secure your iPhone

Okay, I'm an Apple Specialist and you'd be surprised how many people have no passcode on their phones. Then you have the people who use "codes" like 0000 or 1234 to open their phone.  Even more people keep every password under the sun in an unlocked Note file.

The majority of people do keep their phone and passwords secure (as evidenced but the roughly half of customers who cannot remember their Apple ID password!), but there's a large number who do not.  This person is lucky that all that got ordered were a couple dozen hamburgers.  It really could've been a lot worse.

People- use a six digit passcode with non-repeating numbers; don't keep your passwords on your phone; and don't use the same password for everything.

Well, I guess I’m stupid, because I’m not going to follow your advice. I need my passwords on my phone just in case of an emergency. I used to keep them on a sheet of paper but that idea started to not work out very well for me. I also don’t lock the note. If you lock the note, will it unlock with FaceID? I do lock my phone, so maybe I’m not completely stupid.

  • Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium review: The best HomeKit thermostat gets better

I will probably be picking up an Ecobee Premium. However, it’s not accurate to say that Siri is built in, in my opinion. Alexa does not require an additional device in order to process the request. It’s all handled on the device by itself. I don’t own or need a HomePod so I guess I’m stuck with Alexa. Oh well.

  • Apple users report 'phantom' AirTag stalking alerts, likely because of a bug

    M68000 said:
Does this mean anybody with an iPhone can get these alerts?  Or, only people who have bought into this tag product?   I don’t have them so don’t know but wondering.
Yes, anybody with an iPhone can get the alert. It is supposed to mean that someone placed the AirTag in your belongings in order to track your movements. So the alert is designed to let you know that an AirTag if following you that doesn’t belong to you.
