  • Apple's competition is going to have a tough year in 2016

DeD has better writing skills than any tech writer I have read online. What, you think he’s a clickbait author because he writes positively about Apple instead of regurgitating the negative pablum we have come to expect from AI trolls? Do you think trolls repeating their mantra of MARKET SHARE, MAKRET SHARE, MARKET SHARE means Apple is a failure? Then there’s the malcontent caterwauling away about Apple’s QA, alleged loss of innovation, and “Steve would never have allowed this” bawling. You prefer that to a positive perspective? You call this clickbait? You’d rather wallow in the negativity?
I prefer John Gruber's writing. Gruber clearly writes from the perspective of an Apple fan but still manages to maintain some objectivity. Gruber builds such a compelling (and concise!) case, when he writes, that he never needs to make spurious statements like '[Apple] sold the only profitable tablets and smartwatch'.
I have no problem with pro-Apple reporting especially considering there is so much anti-Apple reporting everywhere. But it's better when it's sprinkled with realism and objectivity. Back in 2013 DED wrote an article about Google ditching Android due to IP issues. http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/07/29/google-appears-ready-to-ditch-android-over-its-intellectual-property-issues. It garnered 142 comments. Here we are in 2016 and there is zero evidence Android is going anywhere. I guess it makes some people feel better to think Google is doomed and it's just a matter of time before it all comes crashing down on Page & Co. But to me that just reveals a real insecurity regarding Apple, that Apple can't win unless someone else loses.

  • Rumor: Apple to debut Bluetooth earbuds alongside 'iPhone 7,' with truly wireless left & right earp

The main problem I have with Apple's direction here is that the "included in the box" headphones are likely to be lightning EarPods, and EarPods just fall out of your ears constantly.  If you use them daily they only last about six months anyway.

These wireless earphones sound okay, but they are likely to be at least a couple of hundred dollars, and they don't seem to be "in-ear" even (the only ear buds that really, actually, stay in).  The "hook over the back of the ear" type that these seem likely to be, is generally the least popular type of ear buds out there, because again ... they generally don't fit and generally fall out a lot.  They don't usually even seal at the ear properly, so they leak sound as well.  All of the really, really low quality ear buds are these "hook over the ear" type.

Apple's will no doubt be much better than what's currently out there, but I don't see how they can really get over these problems.

The only current Apple branded ear buds that work well, stay in your ears well, and produce comparable output to non-Apple brands are the Apple in-ear ear buds.  To use these however, some kind of bulky adapter will be necessary.

I can't get over seeing this as essentially a "lose-lose-lose" situation for anyone who cares even a little bit about sound quality and actually listens to their iPhone a lot.
These new Dash wireless earbuds don't look like they hook over the back of the ear.

  • Core Apple manufacturer Foxconn sees December revenues down 20 percent

Looking at Apple's website the 6 and 6 Plus were available in China on October 17 in 2014 and on September 25th in 2015 (along with the rest of the launch countries). So that's roughly 3 weeks of sales that fell into the holiday quarter this year as compared to last year. How can you do a meaningful YOY comparison for the Holiday and March quarter without adjusting for China?

Pacific Crest just put out a research note essentially accusing Tim Cook of lying:

Management’s confidence now looks highly likely to be misplaced, which suggests that it was either ignorant of the challenges it faced or deliberately overstating underlying trends. The former seems unlikely, which suggests that management has taken a much more aggressive tone as growth in the high-end smartphone market has slowed. This reduces our confidence in Apple’s commentary going forward.

Of course we don't know what any of this means because we don't know Apple's production cycles, channel inventory etc. The question I have is if the March quarter is going to be brutal would Apple have to pre-warn about that? Or would they only have to warn if they were going to significantly miss December estimates?
