  • Apple Pencil UI navigation functions to return in next iOS 9.3 beta, Apple says

    AppleInsider said:

Apple said it temporarily removed Pencil's ability to act as a finger replacement as it works to refine such functionality, the report said. Full capabilities should be restored in the upcoming iOS 9.3 beta, and will assumedly be included in the firmware's final version.
If this move was temporary and Apple had always intended to restore UI navigation for the Pencil in the final version, then the release notes for the beta should have included this as a "known issue" along with a statement that it will be corrected.  I think that in this instance, Apple was trying to see if they could get away with removing the feature entirely, but too many people complained.

Someone should gather up all the posts from the people who were arguing that Apple should not allow UI navigation with the Pencil.

  • First Apple Music TV series to star Dr. Dre, will feature 'no shortage of violence and sex'

Bizarre Apple would bankroll this when their own app approval policy is so straightlaced. What in the hell is going on at Apple? Is Jimmy and Dre running the show now?

I'm sure there will be interest in this, but it just seems like more extremely inconsistent decision making. Does Apple want to be Netflix, HBO or Cinemax...or the Disney Channel?
It makes perfect sense, with the message being:  Apple need not follow their own rules.  How many times do we see Apple's own applications violating Apple's Human Interface Guidelines that all other developers are expected to follow?

I'm not so sure. On your iOS device with Touch ID enabled, you must reenter your passcode every 48 hours. From this I infer that Touch ID is a convenience, but that passcodes provide superior security.
"48 hours"? I don't/haven't on any of my iOS devices: I only am required to re-enter the passcode when I've powered down the device and restarted it or after a system update. Neither of which happens every 48 hours. And I'm skeptical of passcode superior security as they can be socially hacked (your birthday? Really?), stolen or merely observed and copied: none of which applies to a Touch ID.

  • Bug or conscious change? Apple Pencil for iPad Pro gets gimped by iOS 9.3 betas

I think this is a good move if it is indeed intentional.

When you are drawing, you move the paper around on the table with your non-dominant hand and draw with your dominant hand.  In the iPad metaphor, the iPad is the "paper" and using your pencil to move the paper around is kind of crazy really.  You want to be able to use both hands at once, one for zooming in and out and moving the paper around and the other (with the pencil) for drawing.  Makes total sense metaphorically.
Incorrect reasoning, since you could already do the things you described before the Pencil was "gimped".  In order to make a real case to support this change to the Pencil, you should identify what it allows you to do now that you couldn't do before, and explain why it is necessary to "gimp" the other functionality.
