I knew this is going on for years, but new developers are stilled shocked by this policy.

As a developer, I don't have a problem with Apple taking 30%, or even not allowing a link to external payment web page.  But not able to mention ANYTHING ANYWHERE in-app is just ridiculous.  

It just creates unnecessary hassle for the developers and the users. We were forced send out emails to our users about a premium tier of services.

I suspect majority of Fortnite's revenue were from in-app purchases, not from new users, so the publicity likely reminded existing users to go back to the game and play and buy more.  It is no different for McDonalds to spend on TV commercials.

It was likely a calculated move:  Spend $100 million on TV commercials that people don't see, or $100 million on a lawsuit to tell people "Apple is evil"and hoped it would go viral regardless which side its users "support".

Also the real story behind it was Tencent, the Chinese parent company wanted use WeChat Pay for payments.   To use WeChat Pay, you have to have money in a Chinese bank!

Sorry, but consumers don't want to go back to the days of going to local grocery stores to rent movies on tape.

MacBook 12 was a good size but the keyboard was terrible and really underpowered.  So if Apple could fix both, it would be a hit.
