Why the Mac's migration to Apple Silicon is bigger than ARM
I suspect Apple has always been looking at 3 to 5 years ahead. This means Apple slowed down the adoption of Intel processors in the last several years to divert all engineering resources to prepare this transition. We will likely to see new Macs with new form factors, more innovative features, even modular designs for the next 2 years. -
Apple unveils plans to ditch Intel chips in Macs for 'Apple Silicon'
Very interesting. Apple just killed the Hackintoshes that runs on cheap Intel PC's. With custom silicon, Apple can now put GPU and all circuits on one single chip, it all make sense to have iPad pro as the primary "computer" now that Microsoft Office, Adobe are on-board, and a new version of XCode for iPad is probably coming as well. -
China ready to retaliate against Apple after U.S. moves to ban chip shipments to Huawei
The biggest issues was that people forget how Huawei got in trouble with the US government in the first place:
1, Huawei has this win at any cost, including steel and copy any IP without paying a license fee.
2, Selling to Iran. When caught, form a paper company in Hong Kong and continue to sell to Iran
3, For years CCP gave Huawei preferential banking terms and protected its market position from foreign competition.
Say what you will on Trump, he's the only president that stands up to CCP. -
France shames Apple for not sacrificing user privacy for COVID-19 app
This is just stupid. The carriers are already tracking every cellphone signals and GPS locations, they have to know where you are to complete the calls! All you have to do is to get the phone's IMEI number and do a big data query, and just use push notification warning anonymously to all "contacts".
Focus only on privacy and nobody knows the real risks. Without knowing the risks, everyone will be afraid to go out and everyone suffers. -
First ARM Mac said to arrive in 2021 with custom Apple chip
TSMC is in Taiwan. It does have factories in China, but for lower end customers. It does have facilitates in the U.S.I'd like to see Apple do some joint ventures with TSMC to build fabs further away from China. It doesn't even have to be the US -- put them in Japan or Germany -- but can we get a little distance from the red army please?
