  • Apple's AirPods 2 -- One month later

I have the new version of the AirPods and they are my first pair. Overall, they are good as long as the environment around you is relatively quiet and/or what you're listening to is of a low volume (for example, some classical music- which I listen to a lot). Using them in my gym, I often will hear the music from the gym's PA system over what's playing on my iPhone. My old noise cancelling earphones that were able to block even the noise of a NYC subway are still in my daypack because the subway just laughs at AirPods. So I like my AirPods but really wish that noise cancellation was a feature. I really didn't feel like waiting another eight or nine months for the chance that AirPod 3 would come out with that feature.

  • Apple's earnings warning indicates trouble in China, but everyone should calm down

    Quite well said.
I had seen the after market share price drop before reading the letter.  When I read the letter, I saw it as just another Wall Street overreaction.
Yes, Apple needs to make some adjustments in things- somewhat lower prices would be a start. Some new exciting products.  But, that sort of advice can apply to pretty much every company on the planet.
Mostly, the reaction to Apple's news reminded me of other news yesterday.  Tesla reported that it delivered 90,700 cars in the 4th quarter. That was a miss of about 350 from what analysts expected.  Not 3500 or 35000... 350...  .38%.  Their stock was pummeled too yesterday.
Wall Street always overreacts because so much of the trading is done via computers and automated programs.  Humans didn't specifically order sales of Apple stock, their computer algorithms did it.   And if on January 29, Apple revenues turn out to be above $84 billion, those same algorithms are going to send the stock soaring too much in the other direction.

  • Virtualization software maker Parallels bought out by Canada's Corel

WordPerfect many, many years ago used to be the top word processing software on the market.  Corel didn't kill it, they saved it.  It would have died years ago if not for Corel buying it.
Why did WordPerfect lose 90%+ of its market?  Microsoft.  That's why.
For makers of PCs, Microsoft had a condition to being able to include a Windows license.  The maker could not offer any other productivity suite other than Office on their computers.  So, you bought a Dell PC in let's say 1996... as you went down the options, you could have added Word, Excel, etc.. but there was no option to add WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, etc.
For most people, they just went with what was there... that's how Microsoft shoved Office up everyone's ass.
WordPerfect was the first real word processor I learned to use- version 4.0 in 1987.  I used it exclusively until 2012.  When I finally switched from a PC to Mac, I started to use Word for more things.  I STILL have WordPerfect X7 on my iMac with Parallels and it works just fine.
In my opinion, WordPerfect is and always has been light years ahead of Word.  Things like margin controls, reveal codes, etc. make it so much easier and more powerful. My list of address labels for holiday cards is still a WordPerfect file because trying to do labels in Word has always been a crap shoot.
What Corel should do now, is offer every Parallels user the WordPerfect suite for some ridiculously low price like $15-20... even free.  A lot people might discover I have known for at least 25 years- that WordPerfect is a better program than Word.

  • Apple Watch 'Series 4' leak shows slimmer chassis with larger screen & new watch face

I love that watch face. I hope it work on a Series 2. I am not about to drop $600 on a new watch when the one I have works fine. The one thing that bugs me with the complications is that is only lets you use Apple Calendar when you hit the date. In short, the native calendar is so bad in my eyes, that to say it sucks is too high a complement. I've used Informant Pro for years. I get to see an actually calendar when I look at a month display and not a pile of dots.

    Pocket Informant is a winner.
Another vote here for Pocket Informant.  Been using it for a few years now- had it on my Android, now on my iPhone, iMac, and my iPad.  Couldn't live without it.
