  • Testing Apple's software fix for the Studio Display camera

I bought the Apple Studio Display expecting the webcam to be absolutely terrible, as per all of the reviews. However, I've found that it's actually a significant upgrade on the standalone Logitech webcam that it has replaced. Maybe it's not iPad quality but decent.

I really don't get the hysteria surrounding it.

  • European politicians on the cusp of requiring USB-C in all smartphones

So please amplify - if Apple or Samsung has a new charging port in development that they wanted to launch say next year, that offer demonstrably better performance or features, that was not USB-C based, how would they implement it?
They would submit their ideas to the USB-IF (or Wireless Power Consortium) for inclusion in the next USB standard. If it's demonstrably better, it'll be adopted without issue.

Good? I wish my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro all charged over the same cable.

And people here don't understand that this isn't the EU's first charging standard. Nothing is being frozen by this decision.

  • Compared: Apple Studio Display versus Porsche Design AOC Agon Pro monitor

I assume that the AOC monitor is only capable of 3840x2160 @ 144Hz over HDMI 2.1? If so, that makes the feature pretty redundant to most Mac users as recent MacBook Pros only feature HDMI 2.0.

  • Johny Srouji says the Apple Silicon strategy challenged Apple

I think this is simplifying a bit too much. If Microsoft was truly dominant, they would have successfully moved to ARM years ago. Instead, the dominance is the combination of Windows + x86, and while Microsoft might be influencing it they're not really controlling it. Maybe in the future, once the Qualcomm deal ends, if Microsoft puts more might into ARM.
Microsoft also doesn’t have control over developers in the same way as Apple. Apple has always been very aggressive at deprecating and removing old technologies while Microsoft has attempted to maintain compatibility for as long as possible.

Thus a lot of successful Windows apps have very old code bases and therefore wouldn’t be compatible with a Microsoft’s equivalent of Rosetta 2. And without Rosetta 2, Apple’s migration to ARM would have been dead in the water.
