  • Eddy Cue repeatedly visited Washington Post, New York Times in failed Apple News+ bid

I presume some of the special offers Apple offered them are off the table if News+ turns out to be a success and they want in on the party later.
Doesn't matter if it's a success if Apple is taking 50% of your money in the process.
Most newspapers and/or magazines offer very large discounts when subscribing directly through them, for example if you subscribe to the physical New York Times you save 50% for 12 weeks. Inc. magazine for example, you save 60% off the cover price. Apple taking 50% of profits is hardly a problem if it means getting a customer.

To me the biggest joke is Android and Chrome. We all know Android is dead on tablets. Chrome is a pretend desktop OS which comes not only with its own limitations but also with the fact that nobody is bringing heavyweight software to it (like Photoshop or similar).

In order to bolster Chrome, Google has made the odd choice of allowing Android Apps to run on it. So taking inferior Apps written by developers too lazy to optimize for tablets and bringing them over to Chrome is supposedly a good thing? Developers already can’t be bothered to optimize their Apps for large screened devices, and they’re expected to suddenly do a 180 and optimize for Chromebooks?
One of the consultants at my work relies on his Chromebook for everything he does at work, which is email, word processing and spreadsheets. He likes it because it's all integrated, all on the cloud and syncs to his Android phone. For people like him, that's all they need and an iPad or MacBook would be too expensive but for a $250 laptop, it's perfect.

  • Does Apple have any premium buyers left for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max?

    Yep. Me.  Long overdue.
Same. What I find funny is when I told a sales rep at one of the Apple Stores in my area that I ordered the iPhone XS Max with 512GBs he flat out asked I needed that much storage or that much power. Mind you, he doesn’t even know me or what I plan on doing with the phone. I found it absolutely absurd that an actual Apple employee would question my buying habits of their own products!

It would be very interesting to know how the entire OS is designed to track the user, and their basis for writing that.
It appears as though Special Agent Strzok has iOS and Android confused.
Could not agree more. I’ll never trust using an Android phone. The only reason I bought an Amazon Fire tablet is for one app and the only reason it requires an internet connection is to access their cloud for storing documents. Other than that, I trust Apple’s security over Google by a large landslide!

Hmm... I always pictured Apple more as wine and cheese, and Microsft as beer bash, but whatever. :)
In todays legal environment where the server of the alcohol is responsible, Apple likely watered the beer down to the point where you would likely have to completely over indulge to get drunk.  The reality here is that many companies have completeky given up on supporting parties where alcohol is served.    Doing so avoids connection with serious crimes like drunk driving, but also avoids social interaction problems that have been turned into crimes.

By the way i don't agree with the way our culture has turned here.   People should be held responsible for their behavior, directing blame on others never solves a problem.   The current trends with harrasment means it could be ten years later before a company hears anything.   It is a sad world we live in?
Yea, that might be the case, and I agree it would be wise to just not serve alcohol at such an event at all. (I remember one of my first jobs while I was in college, the small company I worked for had a summer picnic and the ONLY drink they had available was a keg of beer!).

(--  And, re: recent harassment stuff - not to get too off topic here, but it does really concern me. On the one hand, I've been disgusted by the way even the 'average' guy talks and jokes about women (let alone the creeps) all too often. On the other, is it really a prosecutable, or job-ruining offense if a guy makes an awkward pick-up line or something? Especially given that a lot of the behavior is actually encouraged so long as the woman finds the guy attractive or is actually interested in such advances?

Even my wife (works in HR/labour relations) who has been a strong advocate for getting rid of this kind of stuff is starting to think it has gone way too far. She has already had to represent a few cases where the guy has lost a job over quite shaky testimony, because the employer/contractor doesn't want to take any chances. It has become a witch-hunt. Also, while I would believe most of the women, I've also known some truly wicked manipulative women who will use this for all it's worth, and likely quite effectively.  --)

Actually they have very good beer at Apple Beer Bash events and they generally host them once a quarter or around product announcements. These Beer Bashes have been going on for a very long time, I remember going to a few when I worked for Apple in 2000/2001 and everyone was having a good time and drinking in moderation. They also serve wine. There is also a very large buffet style of delicious food.

I am curious to see where they host the Beer Bash events at Apple Park since the inside of the ring is almost covered in trees.
