Apple might soon pay for Wikipedia content

Apple discontinues full-size HomePod, to focus on HomePod mini
neillwd said:Does anyone believe this article? I’ve only read one article that seems to have started at TechHive parroted by everyone else. No press release on Apple’s site.
https://techcrunch.com/2021/03/12/apple-discontinues-original-homepod-will-focus-on-mini/Apple gave TechCrunch a statement about the discontinuation:
HomePod mini has been a hit since its debut last fall, offering customers amazing sound, an intelligent assistant, and smart home control all for just $99. We are focusing our efforts on HomePod mini. We are discontinuing the original HomePod, it will continue to be available while supplies last through the Apple Online Store, Apple Retail Stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple will provide HomePod customers with software updates and service and support through Apple Care.Apple won't put the discontinuation notice on their site if they're trying to sell off existing inventory.

An interesting development, and a tough choice. When this happens, it makes folk wary of buying other products in the same range.I think the problem was that at that price it needed to do more, and because Siri is not up to snuff, it couldn’t. At £99, folk are happy to pay for a small speaker, even if Siri can’t match the capabilities of the competition. But again, cancelling the big sister will make potential buyers nervous. But Apple throwing in the towel at the high end is a rare occurrence it could just be a matter of refocusing, or it could be something more serious. In any case, I’m definitely steering clear of the AirPods Max because I suspect they’ll go the same way.Still, got to admire how ruthless they are with their own products. -
Apple Watch summons immediate help for man who fell through ice
pulseimages said:So can the Apple Watch dial 911 on it’s own if it’s sensed that you have fallen or must the user request 911?
It dials automatically if you haven’t moved for a minute.
