Apple can say who contacts whom via iMessages and FaceTime without needing to crack anything. What they can't do is get any content from the communication.anantksundaram said:

It is most likely that the value of the information is WHO they were contacting, not what was said, and law enforcement would already have that.

Instead of having two cables from each source (one to the tv and one to the receiver), it is one cable from each device to the TV and one cable from the TV to the receiver.
Added benefit: No reason to have to switch inputs on the receiver based on what you are watching.
