  • Samsung to spend $116B in next decade to overtake chipmakers TSMC, Intel, Qualcomm

Hope that  dumps Intel on Mac soon.
Why?? They are good for now....just because
I for one need my macs to retain x86 compatibility as I use it to run Windows.  It's the primary reason I purchased a Mac.  It would be a shame if that ability disappeared.  I'm not alone on this.

That being said, Intel shot themselves in the foot with their never-ending delays for CPU's.  There is no reason to not believe that Apple got fed up with it and is looking to use its new expertise in ARM to basically shove Intel aside.
I don't really think x86 compatibility is going to be a roadblock for Windows on Macs. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/arm/

  • Intel exits 5G smartphone modem business on heels of Apple-Qualcomm settlement

So what caused what here? Qualcomm securing a deal causes intel to abandon 5G, or intel tell Apple they have no interest a few days ago and Apple rush to a deal?

And epic fail by a once great company.
According to the Nikkei, Apple and Qualcomm have been hammering out the settlement for weeks.  Apparently the talks got far enough along for Apple to test QC's chips and have some of their contractors test QC's chips.  At some point, I'm guessing the realization hit that Intel didn't stand a chance at competing.  Since Apple was essentially Intel's only mobile chip customer...

  • Lawsuit charges Apple with ignoring swelling Apple Watch batteries

The article doesn’t mention it but was the watch brought into an Apple Store for service? If so, what was the outcome? Or are they just trying to sue without even bothering to contact Apple at all?
AI seems to have neglected to add that information to their article.  Yes, she did attempt to take the watch in for service.
"After booking an appointment at an Apple Genius Bar in August 2018, she says Apple denied the repair under warranty for free, and quoted her the out-of-warranty charge of US$229. She seeks damages “in an amount to be proven at trial for herself and all others similarly situated.”  - MacObserver

"The plaintiff booked a Genius Bar appointment in August 2018, but upon inspection, she alleges that Apple denied to repair the Apple Watch free of charge under warranty and instead quoted her an out-of-warranty fee of $229 for service." - MacRumors

  • AT&T CEO claims HBO will glean consumer data from Apple TV viewers

On one hand I find it completely insane that he would have the nerve to lie so blatantly, but on the other... what else could he possibly do? What an effin douche.
Why would you assume he's lying?  I'm guessing it's because you don't understand what Apple qualifies as personal information.
Apple defines personal information as: data that can be used to identify or contact a single person.  So they can easily say they aren't sharing personal information without being dishonest.  Apple never states they won't share non-personal information.  Non-personal data has a less stringent sharing parameters.  In fact Apple states: We also collect data in a form that does not, on its own, permit direct association with any specific individual. We may collect, use, transfer, and disclose non-personal information for any purpose.
Examples of non-personal information and some examples of how Apple uses it:  We may collect information such as occupation, language, zip code, area code, unique device identifier, referrer URL, location, and the time zone where an Apple product is used so that we can better understand customer behavior and improve our products, services, and advertising.

So he has no reason to lie because Apple is probably not sharing personal information with AT&T beyond what's necessary to manage the account.  But non-personal information like the type listed above?  Yeah, I bet they're getting some of that.

  • AirPods retail box appears to include image of AirPower charging mat

UPS is reporting my new AirPods should be delivered tomorrow, so I’ll see what the actual box shows.
I'm not sure your box will actually show anything, unless you're getting the charging case separately.  I say that because there are two boxes pictured above.  One is an AirPods box showing a picture of the headphones and not AirPower.  The other is a Wireless Charging Case box - that's what the label says.  That's the one with the AirPower info on it.
