Trump trumpets trade deal with China that's still terrible for Apple
-
If you were underwhelmed by WWDC 2025, you're not alone
It's weird. People expect Apple to make everything.
They don't. they don't want to. It's not what they are about.
Apple makes what they feel will benefit user the most. And they leave the rest to everyone else.
Apple got started in AI. but they aren't an AI company. they are a platform company. this platform host many software systems from many developers, This includes AI.
apple users can use Google, Open AI, and everyone else. And then there is the native Apple AI as well.
Apple is doing more of a CoPilot type of AI, where is is invoked as an assistant, rather than try to play genie and remove the user from the equation.
The problem with Apple's implementation is not that it doesn't do enough. It's that it doesn't do what it does with excellence. It's passable, but not great. It will get better and it will get great. But that will take more time.
Yet, that's not what defines Apple. It's not what Apple is about. About is about the user and the overall experience. That's where the LG UI and Ux upgrades come in.
Apple updating all its apps is also invaluable.
And then there is AI. If Apple had something to show it would do so. But I think Apple has learned some lessons from showing works in progress versus polished gold masters. Getting back to the Steve Jobs era of announce it when it's ready to ship and all the nuts and bolts have been double checked, retightened, and ready for prime time is the way to go. -
Liquid Glass is more than skin deep on macOS Tahoe
I like just about everything. but one aspect bothers me quite a bit. The glass UI is really sharp, not just the way it looks, but the way it performs. but at the top of finder windows at others, the top navigation bar area really took a backwards step. Look horrid. Like an 8th grade art project, completed with both outlines AND massive drop shadows. almost amateurish. It's in stark contrast to the refined elegance of he rest of the UI. Looks like Anfroid material design slapped on top of Liquid Glass at the last minute. Hopefully that changes by launch. -
Apple execs explain Apple's position in the AI race & how it isn't necessarily 'behind'
Personally I like Apple’s take on AI. it’s isn’t trying to spoon feed me what IT WANTS. it’s a tool I0 control and choose what I want to do.Everyone else’s ai tries to almost remove the user from their work. That’s wack. I don’t want some unimind consensus machine forcing its whims. I want to direct and control. And even not use ai at all most of the time. I didn’t invest time into learning skills just to turn off my brain and hit cruise control - then just settle for whatever the system threw up on me.A lot of ai is useful and it seems that’s what apple is focusing on.Even so, they actually ARE a bit behind in execution quality. Some of the photo fixing is kind of embarrassing compared to the competition for example. But I expect this will be resolved shortly. The point is Apple is not behind in ai itself and is actually AHEAD when it comes to an ethical way of going about it. And on-device is definitely the way to go. -
iOS 26 vs iOS 18: Is Apple's 'Liquid Glass' a true redesign?
ramanpfaff said:I'll take iOS 6 over the rest. Sort of like OSX, 10.6 was the best. Both have been heading downhill ever since. I really don't see how this is considered a redesign, it's just lipstick on a pig as they say.
