  • Sonos abandons its streaming Apple TV rival even as it was in testing

Sonos must have figured it wanted to stay in business and that it’s not able to take on a money pit hobby like streaming.

If you’re not a studio or a streaming pioneer, then you’ll just get killed. Apple was throwing money into a black hole for a long time building (sparse) content and may still not be seeing much in the way of ROI. and licensing from studios and brokers ain’t cheap. Not to mention it would take forever for Sonos to establish enough credibility to get customers. They’d have to go big on acquisitions, marketing, and then give their service away initially to with tie-in deals on speakers, phone plans, etc. to generate a sense of something worthwhile being there. And even then it may simply not catch on.

Sonos should just stick with what they are good at. They don’t have the ecosystem to support something like this.

  • Apple's C1 modem signals the end of its Qualcomm dependence

I doubt apple will be pursuing 5g only with this modem. They’ll need for for fallback and likely borrow the tech, leading to some fees paid to due the minefield of 5g patents.

But 6g… that’s likely what apple is spending their respurces on, possibly being the first to get there and be a big part of setting the standard.

  • China threatens App Store probe in retaliation for trade tensions

    China showing its true colors.

After cook invested insane amounts of money in the country snd looking to do more, they turn around and pull this - just to get back at someone else.

    Shameful.

If China did things properly there wouldn’t be anything to worry about. Finally someone steps in and charts a course-correction.

China can be upset, because they didn’t get their way. But if they want to escalate, they’ll find the gravy train no longer delivers to that area.

  • Apple halts Vision Pro production

According to The Information and seconded by Kotsku

    https://kotaku.com/apple-vision-pro-vr-mixed-reality-report-1851731279

    seems too many are unsold.

Most of us predicted this back when it was a rumor and here it is. Wasn’t exactly difficult to forecast.

Apple may still attempt to produce a cheaper version or change the form factor entirely. Do all is not lost, especially if they come out with glasses.

Feel bad for everyone who jumped on the avision Pro though. The upside is that Apple doesn’t abandon its customers even when the product flops.

  • Apple accused of forcing employees to sign illegal contracts, quashed labor efforts

    Signing contracts isn’t illegal.

And if a union is crushed by it, that’s also not illegal.

    Nothing to see here.
