  • Qualcomm CEO downplays importance of Apple relationship after C1 modem

    "64-bit is a marketing gimmick"

    - Official Qualcomm Statement 2013

"Apple's 64-bit A7 Chip 'Set off Panic in the Industry'", "the A7 'sent ripples of disbelief' throughout their [Qualcomm] offices"

    - Qualcomm Employees

Not sure losing such a big revenue stream warrants a "that's what it is" blasé response from the CEO. Downplay it all you want, but it's actually quite a big thing.
    It's lost revenue. That's a fact.

However, it's lost revenue that they never expected to have in the first place.

    Literally money for nothing.

It was only Intel failing to deliver that got them this current contract. Just a bonus. It also saw the end of a multi-billion dollar legal fight as Apple had no option but to abandon that.

They have always known it was temporary. The contract itself was temporary. Right from the start.

What isn't temporary are the patent royalties that Apple will continue to pay them.
Apple wouldn't have gone into the modem business if Qualcomm wasn't so shady. That's what triggered this. Qualcomm has 5G on lockdown as far as getting the best out of it. anyone else has to work around their patents. But 6G is a whole new ballgame. And it's time fore 6G.

    LOL

its not the entry level C1 Qualcomm has to worry about. It’s the far more capable successors. Especially the 6g stuff

  • Trump trade war delays Apple Intelligence's debut in China

China gonna China. But it's not like everyone is clamoring for th current version of Apple's AI.
You're right that the current AI from Apple won't sell products. Which is exactly why this is so important to Apple.
The smartphone market in China is so big that 1% extra market share locally = 1% extra iPhone sales globally. It is the most obvious path towards growth for Apple.

Apple under Cook dropped from #1 to #3 in market cap. Other companies have outperformed Apple and this certainly doesn't help.
Other companies have indeed outperformed Apple in AI, but only in AI. Apple has them beat literally everywhere else. Apple is navigating a fine line between ethical and unethical AI development. google, Open AI and others have just devoured content whether they should or not. In the case of Google, you really are the product, since you agree to give them your content for whatever purposes they want when you use their services. Appel is above that. And people can use Google or Open AI, etc. on apple products, so it's not really a big deal to be behind. the key to remember about apple is that they aren't always first to something. But once they dig in and go after something, they are usually the best. So we will see what they do. I don't think they'll be live-blogging the next wave of AI at all. I think they'll return to the more secretive Apple as the blabbermouth Apple has hurt itself a few time. The Chinese government isn't the most friendly player out there and Apple has navigated that through investments and appeasements. But now, as usual with totalitarian regimes, they are making it harder. The upside is that people don't buy Apple for AI. They buy for reliability, performance, ease of use, aesthetics, privacy, and security. And they can always use the AI of their choice on that best in class Apple product. It's the same principle as using Adobe Creative Cloud, MS Office, etc. Apple doesn't make those, but people prefer to use them on Apple devices.

  • Egypt's foreign trade minister is asking for a local Apple Store

A local brick and mortar makes sense. A local App Store? nope.

And Appel should add a preemptive rule that they can only have a store if they agree to forever forgo any stupid EU type shenanigans.
I hope one day consumer protections come your way and you will be rid of the Stockholm syndrome. It sucks being the product of corporations.
Consumer protections are already here and they don't steal from business owners under a false cloak of "pro consumer." Maybe you should experience that so you can be free of government nannying. Try to keep up.

  • 'Fortnite' CEO thought he'd beat Apple in weeks, not years

He shouldn't have thought he'd beat Apple at all and should have simply honored his legal and binding agreement.
