  • App Store protected users from $9 billion in fraud over five years

And it’s protected users from having their privacy freely invaded (though still a risk) , their devices safer, and their transactions safe since Inception.

Great job apple. Shame on those who have taken a crowbar to it.

  • Texas passes App Store age verification law, despite Tim Cook's concerns

Good. Kids are more important than profits. Let kids enjoy a wholesome childhood for crying out loud.

You can have all the “parental control” products in the world and they won’t get used if it’s not constantly reminder and dead simple. Most parents are either too lazy or too tech averse to set it up.

Age verification makes this constantly reminder and dead simple. Kudos to Texas.

  • Nothing CEO takes shots at Apple, ludicrously says that apps are going away

    Not a fan of Nothing.

They can pretend they have no apps by using an ai that “hides” its app usage, but it’s still using apps. And no one company can create an “Everything” app/os that does everything better than other developers. It’s why apple has dropped ambitions in the past - a realization that the dna of another company allows them to do a better job at some things.

If nothing wants to stifle app dev innovation, they’ll just paint themselves into a corner. Their ai is won’t be better than another ai and other apps.

It sounds like yet another group trying to sound profound snd just ending up looking dumb.

  • Starlink Wars: Elon Musk still battling Apple over iPhone satellite connectivity

    iJeffrey said:

If all iPhones are connected to Starlink, that could give his DOGE team the ability to link your government account directly to your device. It would also give Starlink access to your cellular data transmissions.

At that point, Starlink essentially is an ISP—with the power to record everything.

I don’t trust Musk, never will again.

It’s not like ATT VERIZON etc. don’t already do that. Starlink IS an isp just like them.

So the risks that we have now won’t be alleviated. But at least we will get better service while we are at it.

  • Starlink Wars: Elon Musk still battling Apple over iPhone satellite connectivity

Apple may need to restructure as a parent company with a computing arm, a communications arm, entertainment, transportation, etc. in order to avoid too much government oversight.

Spacex, etc. would be wise to introduce a satellite connected phone and computing lineup.

Over the weekend, I finished switching my dad’s satellite setup from wild blue to starlink. Oh my gosh. Soooooooo much faster. And unlimited data instead of the expensive low allotment my dad would run out of two weeks into the month. Not only that, but the service is priced better and we will see how it does in rough weather.

Apple should do satellites and if not, partner with the best, regardless of differences. Would be great to use starlink for iPhone when traveling overseas. The current methods are way too annoying, expensive, etc.

Apple is so big as it is that hostile governments will always be looking to take it down a notch. A restructuring may be in order if it wishes to expand its industrial footprint further.
