Rumor: iPhone 15 USB-C cable limited to USB 2.0 speeds, has no MFi
While this should satisfy the desire for a universal connector standard, it’s curious as to why Apple would want to limit the new capabilities when it’s so easy to give it full throttle. They actually have to work harder to limit it. I can’t see how such an artificial limitation is a benefit for Apple’s customers. -
Mac Pro in danger after fumbled Apple Silicon launch
Well duh.Apple cheaped out and chose to not innovate further. They could have launched a Mac Pro with an m extreme chip or built it to allow multiple SOCs. But Ternus couldn’t be bothered I guess. If there is to be a future, they must build it to accommodate multiple SOCs and replacement/upgrade SOC MODULES.
IF THE MAC STUDIO IS AS GOOD AS IT GRTS, that’s not that hot. It’s capable and powerful, but not the world destroyer the g5 power Mac / cheese grater Mac Pro was or that the 2019 Mac Pro was.Apple could dominate the performance arena, but apparently the Dell motto of “good enough” has carried over. -
No more white boxes and red ribbons as Apple ditches gift wrapping
Well that sucks.Such a classy way to do it. Made it so special many times. And it it was an actual environmental concern, folks will be using more resources now to wrap the products themselves. Apple used biodegradable materials. Walmart doesn’t. Accomplishes nothing other than removing a great thing. -
Rumored Mac Studio trade-in points to possible refresh during WWDC
tenthousandthings said:No one has mentioned the most pertinent aspect of the idea of a trade-in program, it allows people who bought a Studio Display with Mac Studio to update to M2 without, you know, having to buy a new display along with it.
This is in contrast to the past, when if you wanted to update your 5K iMac to the current silicon, you bought a new 5K iMac.This could be featured in the keynote, in the sense that Apple’s desktop line will be like the mobile line, with everything getting the current silicon when it is ready (“no Mac left behind”). If a Mac Pro is introduced with modular components that can also be traded in for the current silicon, then the transition will be complete. You miss the fact that if you trade in your iMac, you get a brand new display with it. With the Mac Studio trade, you have to keep the old display, missing out on any upgrades and improvements, not to mention just plain newness. That’s in favor of iMac. Again.Literally the only thing the Mac Studio has over a new large iMac is the ability for Apple to give customers a far worse financial proposition. -
Apple's headset drastically changed over time & top execs are skeptical
22july2013 said:I just tried my first VR headset 4 days ago. I see some potential for it, but I wasn't overwhelmed. I think Apple could help itself (and us) by stressing that they will respect user privacy, but if there's an xrOS app store, I doubt that any third party apps will respect our privacy. So Apple better be offering some compelling software at launch so that I'm not forced to download an app from Google or FaceBook or Communist China, which offer similar degrees of respect for my privacy.
In the article it said that the device would be good for making FaceTime calls. On the surface, that's impossible, since the device wouldn't have a camera pointing at your whole face, and even if you used an external camera, your eyes would probably be blocked by the device, making a FaceTime call useless. However I can see how Apple could use software to "remove" the Apple Glasses from your face. And I can also see how the device could have a flip-out arm (with a camera or a mirror) to take a video of your entire face, which could allow FaceTime calls to work (using software to skew your face into a normal view.)
But if this idea works, the first thing I'll do is buy stock in a company that makes contact lenses, as their sales could rocket overnight.
