Jony Ive is no longer consulting for Apple
Sad, sad day.Jony defined Apple. He was also one half of what WAS Apple. He intrinsically understood great design and how to get it made. The man is a genius. He was tasked with impossible burdens and made it look easy and cool.Ive brought Ape back from nothing with his revolutionary iMacs, notebooks, monitor and and tower designs - taking boring PCs and making them ultra desirable and iconic. What once was something that crunched numbers was now a statement piece as well. He made computers cool. Then he followed up with titanium and aluminum computers that looked and felt like premium engineering and set Apple products up far above the pedestrian competition - his notebook designs are copied to this day. Then he perfected it with the unheard of unibody process, making thin and light notebooks as sturdy and durable as possible. Then he revolutionized the world with the iPod and cool earbuds that instantly made everything else uncool. Then he revolutionized the world again with the iPhone, completely changing phone design into the landscape we have now. Everyone’s phone looks like jony’s now. Then he showed the world how to do a proper tablet. His iMacs have been the stuff of legends.Sure there are a couple of extremely rare misses where the apple board wasn’t clear in its vision and that affected say the 2016 MacBook lineup with a port selection that the rest of apples products went back on, an ambitious keyboard invention that wasn’t quite there, but that’s nothing. The man isn’t perfect and cannot save the world every time. But he certainly has far more to brag about -if he were so inclined - than literally anyone else in his field. He was the right guy at the right place. He had the vision, the gifting, and the steadfast ability to see things through - and then do it all over again.Apple without Jony is just simply less. The best they can do now is to carry on his designs as if he were still there. Thankfully we’ve had him at least consulting up to now. Hopefully some of the new team continue to take inspiration from him and continue where he left off, not try to depart for the sake of giving him the middle finger, and turn iconic design into crap.Wish Apple would have given him something like a two year sabbatical to recharge instead of wear the guy down with the constant process changes - or even better, stopped trying to “fix” what clearly wasn’t broken. Ive had something that worked extremely well. Messing with that for the sake of agenda just wasn’t helpful in that area. Here’s to hoping that a peacemaker finds their way into restoring this unfortunate breakup. -
Long-rumored Apple Silicon iMac Pro still in the works, but not coming soon
I’ve said it before. The Mac studio is in no way a replacement for a large screen iMac.Customers want a 30+ inch screen and m ultra performance in a sleek, minimalist all in one package. It’s the quintessential Mac.Mac studio is just a more powerful Mac mini. Mac Pro is great for those who need even more than the iMac Pro could ever provide (and have the pockets to foot the bill). The iMac is the best of all worlds. The m1 chips couldn’t do it justice without making it very thick. The m2 chips even with a die shrink may not be able to hit the right balance (though I suspect they will), but the m3 is where we see apple take the gloves off. M1 caught the industry by surprise. They’ve had time to respond. The m2 run basically will keep the competitors in check before the m3 pounds them into the ground. Perfect time to launch an incredible new top tier iMac and upgraded Mac Pro.However, I suspect the Mac Pro ship date will slip from the original two year prediction. The Mac studio is a stopgap to buy time for a proper iMac Pro. But the iMac Pro may no longer be a stopgap for the Mac Pro. I think there will be the two coexisting for some time yet, though the iMac Pro will basically be the iMac 5k of the future - only 6k instead. -
Apple's Metal 3 key to 'No Man's Sky' and 'Resident Evil: Villages' coming to Mac

I despise this attitude that those of us who demand more should settle for less because it benefits Apple. I'll look out for my own interests, thank you. -
Apple introduces iOS 16 with a revamped widget-covered lock screen, Wallet and Map changes...
Love the maps, Lock Screen customization, safety and privacy features.Hate that they took a nice, clean UI and replaced it with something reminiscent of Android.Nasty. Looks like a cluttery mess.Love the spotlight feature improvements. Hate the space it takes up.Hopefully there are ways to customize the OS to maintain elegance and order. -
Compared: Apple Music vs Spotify in 2022

One service has Joe Rogan.
The priorities of Apple Music won me over.Objectively, Spotify has done a great job of keeping everything very intuitive and simple whereas Apple Music has sort of lost the apple simplicity.Give me Apples aesthetic and catalog and Spotify user experience snd it would be perfect. As it is now though, The UX of Spotify makes it far easier to enjoy.Had Apple Music since launch - put up with the early mess and lingering quirks because I wanted to support it. But after using Spotify later on, I was struck by just how much more apple-like the Spotify experience was and is.What apple did to revamp Apple Music to be useable as it is now, they need to do another round to make everything dead simple. You shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to do anything, no matter if it’s a very common operation or not. While they may come out even on paper-or perhaps and edge to Apple Music, it’s a totally different experience IRL. Daily living with Spotify is far easier and more enjoyable. It pretty much gets out of your way so you can do what you wanted to start-enjoy content.Spotify wins this one. For now. It has most everything Apple Music does and just plain executes better. Also, if I had to choose between joe Rohan’s podcast and dr. Dre’s podcast, I’d probably learn something listening to Rohan vs having further brain death listening to Dre. Not the greatest comparison there.
listening to him. It’s what you do with new info along the journey of life that matters.Sometimes that bias is challenged and you learn and adapt. Other times you get confronted with something that proves you wrong snd you put your head in the sand. I try to do the former. And I’m no fan of Rogan, though he’s surprised me quite a bit with how much he’s able to go into detail on complex subjects that matter with people who are “experts on said subjects - and more than hold his own. He’s got something special. Just because he doesn’t toe the liberal line doesn’t make him wrong or a bad guy - especially considering how many lied are being exposed from our government and media over the last couple of years.Again, comparing that with the stuff Dr. Dre was saying… if a had to choose between them, I’d choose Rogan out of the two.And that was the point.
