Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard in $68.7B gaming deal
jumpingcoco said:Activision is a great company, but boy, I hope Apple would never make such a lazy moveIn comparison to that, Apple purchasing a combination of AAA gaming studios looks genius. And it would really add quality, must have games. Not the mobile car that passes as games on Apple TV, iPhone, etc.
the reason why people shell out for an expensive Xbox or ps5 is due to the quality of the graphics, scope, audio, story, controls, etc.
Apple has the entire package to just walk in and take the crown without much of a fight at all. The hardware, software, infrastructure, delivery, security, payments, and a pent up audience who would love to game on an Apple made high end gaming system. After using apple products you get spoiled for quality and trust. Moving on to Microsoft and Sony, you feel a little slime leaking in.The only thing Apple would need to do is actually decide to get in it to win it.Do they need to do this to be s successful company? Clearly not. They are the most successful company in the world. But Apple has been the company to walk into other markets snd dominate. Two curious missteps are with Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade. In both cases, Apple refused to make the big investments and partnerships. And then companies like Disney came in snd took big steps like purchasing Marvel. And boom. Instant success for them. If Apple did that instead, they’d be up there. But they didn’t. The best they can give us is “Ted Lasso” which I can’t even watch because my nieces are over so often and the language and subject matter is very clearly adult only. Then there is Apple Arcade. They had a couple interesting games on there at first with beyond a Steel Sky the most immersive among them - and the title that seemed to herald some hope for the platform. But then it went and was followed by pure shovel ware.Apple is into games. They just aren’t into being good at games yet.I say it’s time. This new generation of consoles are having a rough time. Apple can come right in snd dominate. But they have to want to. Hopefully that desire shows up soon. -

Daaaaang. First Bethesda. Now Blizzard / Activision? MS is doing what Apple should have done with Arcade.Mad props. No fan of MS, but they are aiming high with gaming snd putting their money where there mouth is.More of a PlayStation fan, but cannot deny that these moves make Xbox much more attractive. And I don’t believe in the antitrust thing here. This is simple business. Me deserves to have exclusives or timed exclusives that they paid for.I’m betting that elder scrolls, starfirld, WoW, CoD, etc. will all come to competing platforms - but only well after the pent up demand has gone down and folks have bought into the Xbox ecosystem already.Shrewd moves. Smart.Apple TV should come as a console now.Name the actual hardware “Apple TV + arcade”
or just “Apple Arcade.”
Use the m1 Max and let it loose on the planet.App Store and online infrastructure is already there. Payment systems already there. Trust already there. Market is pent up. And everyone else is a mess.Who wouldn’t want a console as trustworthy, secure, and streamlined as your iPhone? And as powerful as a high end pc?Just do it already. -
Apple's new 27-inch iMac with Apple Silicon - what to expect, and when it might be announc...

-No chin
-No external power brick
-Height adjustable stand
Height adjustable stand they might do, or they might just sell a plate so you can install it on a monitor arm.The power supply I could go either way. Making it internal would definitely increase the thickness of the monitor. Keeping it in a separate power brick would remove a big source of heat from the unit itself, and in the event of a component failure, it's much easier to replace an external brick than have to crack the monitor open to service it. If I could choose, I think I would go with an external brick. Apple is really good in this area anyways. What has always been iconic about the iMac is its modern design in the face of everything else. The chin was necessary before. Not now. Form follows function. An iMac with zero bezel and a sleek minimal stand with articulating arm would be amazing. Pure screen. No chin. No bezel. No junk in the way. That would be ultramodern. The 24 inch iMac looks old snd outdated already. The color scheme of thick white bezels And brandless chin contribute to that.Time to stop copying the past and do something new snd exciting again. -

The metaverse is 'off limits' on Apple's VR headset, claims report
Good. The meta verse vision is extremely unhealthy. While the other tech companies nerd out on being nerdy, Apple nerds out on making human life better. thinking of the humans once again. This is why Apple is successful and why missteps are rare. It’s also why they are perpetually “cool” in site of campaigns to strip that title.Good move.
