Trade war escalates: Trump hikes China tariffs to 125%, pauses others for 90 days

The schoolyard bully got called out, and he says that is disrespectful? He should hope he never finds out what disrespectful really is!
very true. China has been bullying the usa on trade and us companies by stealing their ip and even controlling their data. We called them out, They panicked and tried to double down with the tariffs and are now in a tough spot. There is a lot of nuance being revealed. We’ll see how it goes but at least American companies are being looked after, whether with pauses or exemptions. If my family rents a house from a landlord and that landlord charges them an extra amount bevause we aren’t from that neighborhood, and that same landlord goes to my car dealership to lease a new vehicle, I’m going to Jack up his price too. What’s fair is fair. Now if he wants to stop being a bully and stop the ridiculous additional fees, then I’ll do the same. Equity and parity is all I wanted to begin with.
Also your example is a perfect metaphor for what is happening and it is also the thought process of a child.
So you have a landlord charging too much, extraneous fees or whatever. Rather than simply go and have a discussion about it and try to negotiate your rent (people negotiate rent all the time) you instead have a tantrum and all that power that comes with working at a car dealership to gouge him on the price of a car or for service. So, your net result is that you still pay them too much in rent, your boss made money because you gouged the landlord and you done literally nothing to improve your situation. I mean, throwing a tantrums and having nothing to show for it perfectly describes Trump's tariff approach. It’s a fact that we’ve been unfairly treated in world trade with tariffs. It’s also a fact that we are now fighting fire with fire.Unfair abuse is bullying. Fighting back is the right thing to do. Everyone knows you will continue to be bullied unless you help said bully learn their lesson. Otherwise it continues or worsens. No more. Time to grow a spine and man up. Thankfully that’s what’s happening.Look. We are here bevause we are Apple fans. Apple has been pushed around by chin to give them unfettered access to apples customer data in China. Unfortunately, that includes American data when the Chinese customer communicates or does business with Americans - or anyone else. That’s not ok. Chinas tariffs on American goods is not ok. Making it harder for apple to sell there. At the very least, in a very narrow slice of what’s going on? Anyone can agree that a level playing field is best for everyone. Fair is fair. The status quo is not fair. We needed an agent of change. That’s what we voted for and that’s what we got. And now it’s happening.Of course change is hard. No one likes change. But it’s necessary sometimes and takes an adjustment period. -

China calls Trump's trade war a joke, jumps tariffs on U.S. goods to 125%
Time to push China tariffs to 225%.China lives and breathes the US dollar. The US is addicted to Chinese imports. But America can just as easily wait out some production relocation or shift habits.China won’t be recovering thst money.Apple is already reallocating the weight of production. It will take a bit. But it will be done. It’s just too bad that there aren’t more truly free nations to move it to.The only way the USA wins this is to keep its foot in the gas and not give in to bullies. We’ve been pushed around and robbed long enough. As O’Leary said:enough is enough.” Time to get back. -
Trump blinks: Floats suggestion that Apple might get a tariff exemption

But seriously. There are so many ways to look at this. It definitely exposes predispositions. If you already hate Tru p, you’ll work to find the pessimistic angle. If you already like him, you’ll work to find the positive angle. And if you’re just a simple common sense guy, you’ll work to can appreciate what he’s trying to do while retaining the ability to see where it may go wrong - but also retain tje ability to see where it may go right. So far, for common sense folks, tje goal is admirable, results are mixed with the short time in action, and the pivot seems to preserve both the American tech company as well as the inherits of the action to begin with. The downside of all of it is of course the “short term pain” of stock volatility and posdible higher prices. But that was always a known quantity. Not some surprise. But the long term gain of fair trade is what the goal is. And it’s certainly at the very least worth the attempt. If it wasn’t trump, it would be someone else. The status quo is not sustainable without ceding our economy and leading status in the world. As one of the few truly free places in the world, this matters. We are all her for all things apple. They’re a great company. Another reason their great is that they stand for human rights, privacy, security, etc. on top of making the best stuff on earth. But take away the foundation of freedom upon which they operate and things go south. We see a microcosm in the EU and China. Hopefully, with the bold moves being made on the big stage, that’s as far as it goes. And can you imagine how tragic life in Europe would be with no Apple? Man that’s just really really sad. -

Yes, they will send their emissaries to Washington, but back home they will be working feverishly to cut trade deals and form alliances to reduce their dependence on America and find new sources of needed goods and new markets for theirs.Last time I checked, fair is a noble goal. Something everyone can get behind, whether it’s sports, job promotions, prices at the store, or global trade. It’s been unfair for a very long time. Fair is good. Hopefully we see thst accomplished in short order.
