  • Updated Apple TV may form foundation of Siri-based Amazon Echo competitor - report

Well, this is what I expected before the current model was announced. I'll be kinda frustrated if there is a new major refresh to the Apple TV so soon. This is something that should have been in the major refresh. Maybe the Microphone array could be an add-on? This could conceivably make it so you could move the microphone array alway from the TV/Speakers
Part of me hopes that most of this could be done with a software update. Minus the always on mic. Actually all of me hopes that, but the rational part of me realizes Apple historically pairs new features with new hardware despite the previous generation being capable of supporting them. I would not mind having my current Apple TV utilize the new Siri with the mic on the remote as long as the rest of the integration were there.

During out son's journey through K-12, I saw little evidence that computers in general had much educational value, beyond accessing the world's biggest lending library, the Internet. Simulating a chemistry experiment is not the same as breaking a window with one. As stated already in this thread, the computers are not to blame.
Giving tablets, or computer technology of any kind to students in developing countries has been shown to dramatically improve their ability to excel in school. What always amazes me in these case studies is how creative they get in integrating them into their traditional curriculum. I think in the US, the problem is not the tech, presence or absence of it, but the fact that we have decided to stop teaching students how to learn and utilize different tools as part of a learning process. The school year now is spent teaching kids to memorizes facts and preparing them to pencil in bubbles on a standardized test that will determine if the teachers get to keep their jobs and the school keeps its funding the next year. In the US tablets and computers are mostly looked at as simultaneously replacing teachers and books, instead of being a tool in a much larger educational process.

Since I don't have any plans to do anything that might cause law enforcement to obtain a court order I would like this feature. Paranoia is not one of my hangups.

As TS said, above, it's not what you plan or don't plan, it's whatever law enforcement considers illegal that previously wasn't.

Do you have any ripped MP3's? Links to torrent or "hoochie-koochie" sites? Have any sensitive personal or business information? Are you now or have you ever been Hillary Clinton?
What worries me most is that law enforcement and prosecutors are often lazy. If they have a suspect in mind they can make the evidence they do have available to them fit a narrative that makes that suspect guilty. The less information they have from you the less likely they are to implicate you in whatever crime they are investigating. If they have access to your computer and phone they essentially have access to your entire life and can pick and choose which ever "facts" they want to prove their case. Then the onus on your to prove their interpretation of the facts are wrong.
