  • Apple chose a bad year to launch expensive iPads that aren't compelling

I have to disagree with the Apple Pencil hover feature. It is very significant for artists. This type of pen tip detection is on every graphic tablet and was the one big feature missing from the iPad. It is great for graphic designers but also for us photographers. The ability to preview the pen size and opacity before applying a mask in Capture One or Lightroom makes a huge difference in a pro workflow. With this feature, the ability to connect to an Apple Studio Display and all the other greatness of the iPad combined I am beginning to consider the iPad Pro for my photo editing workflow.

I feel like this article was really negative. Yeah sure those are minor upgrades and there is some silly stuff like the basic iPad not supporting the 2nd gen pencil, but this is a mature market already. Everything is incremental.

  • Apple announces 'Tap to Pay', lets users take payments on iPhone

Nice! Now let me just wait 7 years for this feature to eventually come to Finland.

  • How to stop getting the 'Storage Full' message on your iPhone

Or just pay Apple 9,99/month for 2Tb of iCloud storage and have a care free life. I have over 20 000 pictures, over 1800 videos and nearly 300 apps on my phone and never do I have to worry about running out of space. Everything syncs between my devices and everything just works. I mean 10$. I do have a 128Gb model but I’m sure people waste that kind of money on all kinds of stupid stuff and never complain about it. But when it comes to buying digital goods that makes your life easy it’s suddenly wrong. C’mon people.

  • Lawsuit charges Apple with ignoring swelling Apple Watch batteries

My series 2 did this just two monts before the device turned two years old. Suddenly shut down and stopped charging and started heating up in the official Apple Watch charger (the only thing I have ever charged with). It would not turn back on. Took it out of the charger and left it on my nightstand and in the morning the screen was detached from the other side because the battery had swollen.

Luckily here in the EU you can get your device fixed under warranty when it is under 2 years old. It’s the law. Apple does not advertise it but they are required to fix it. So I took it back to the carrier I got it from and Apple replaced it with a brand new one. So even all of my scratches on the screen are gone. I was pretty delighted.

  • Apple COO Jeff Williams 'aware' of iPhone, Mac price concerns

I’m in the creative business. I’m a musician, music teacher and a photographer. I also do computer graphics as a sort of hobby of mine.

Yesterday I was playing around with my 2nd gen iPad Pro and opened up Garageband. I rarely use it because I haven’t done much recording stuff lately. I got notifications about new soundpacks from Apple and started listening to the previews. Those demo songs sounded truly awesome and I was again blown away at how good the speakers sounded on the iPad. There were a ton of new soundpacks and I downloaded them all. Because why not? They were free! Like Garageband. It made me consider recording and composing stuff on the iPad again. Garageband has a ton of really great features and you can even combine sounds from different applications and do all sorts of cool stuff. Really high quality and easy to get started stuff. It is all over iOS. All over the hardware. I use my iPad daily to do most of my work and every day it is a delight. The quality and thought that goes into Apple products really shines through. I know I paid for it all in the price of the product but the device is like an endless chest of creative wonders. If that even makes sense. I feel like a kid in the candy store that has all of the flavours to choose from.

There is so much else ”free” stuff from Apple like Pages, Numbers, Keynote and whatnot. Apple devices truly are for the creative people. The technology gets out of the way of getting stuff done. This and everything else is what you pay for in an Apple product. What other vendor has this??

Never have I once regretted spending over 1300€ for my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. There is something really powerful in these products that goes way beyond the surface. You can’t see the value by estimating the cost of the components or comparing specsheets. It is not in the numbers. It really takes effort to realize what makes Apple products so great. The lazy people keep comparing specs and keep believing in conspiracy theories. It is the easy way of thinking. Someone once said that quality is hard to define but you know when you have it.
