Apple's Catalyst polarizes developers ahead of iOS 13, Catalina launch
Apple gave developers so much at WWDC they had to choose what they would implement. Would they make a Mac app with Catayst or make an independent Watch app, or dive into Combine and Swift UI, or create something new with the new AR stuff, or simply just get their app fully supported on iOS13? The list goes on.
So much new stuff and only a few months to implement something. It’s no surprise that only a minority decided to use the precious limited time to make a Mac app. -
Editorial: Apple has a huge opportunity with its rumored Bluetooth trackers
“ more information has been gleaned thanks to another iOS 13 developer beta ”.
Previous reporting said that the new information came from an “internal build”, not a beta for developers. -
Titanium Apple Card shows signs of wear after just one month
I’ve had the card for 11 days tucked into the back of my leather Decoded XR case.
Every time I put my phone down the card makes contact with various surfaces.
Nether-the-less the white paint finish still looks perfect. The magnet strip has a few marks, like on any other card.
The white finish is extremely durable. According to Apple’s video, the finish is sprayed on before the Apple logo is laser de-bossed. Amazingly, the white finish is not discolored by a laser hot enough to vaporize titanium. I find this hard to believe.
If the card starts looking really scruffy over time it’s no big deal because Apple put a ‘send me a fresh new card’ button in the Wallet app.
I was waiting to see what card-gate the media could come up with, I expected to see not just scratch tests but also drop and bend tests.
But whatever happens it’s no big deal, just tap a button in the app and they send you a new card. -
Titanium and ceramic Apple Watch variants spotted in watchOS 6 beta
GeorgeBMac said:Unless it adds either beauty or functionality, why pay for it?
For me, that's the killer for the stainless steel version: I can't tell it from the aluminum version and, since the aluminum version stays scratch free, it doesn't offer any real benefit (or is the crystal still saphire? -- that would be a benefit).
So, I figure that, at best titanium may provide a lighter watch --- which is nice but not a big deal.
But, a ceramic watch could offer color variations not possible otherwise and provide beauty and distinction.
Titanium will be an interesting option. Much less dense than steel but still two and a half times more dense than aluminum. It could be as light as the aluminum if they make the titanium case really thin.
Titanium will not have the clean silver color of stainless. Natural titanium will look a little darker and have a tan or brown hue. Titanium also has a softer surface than stainless and will pick up deeper scratches.
Rather than replacing stainless, I expect titanium to show up as an “Edition” model and that Apple will use a diamond-like coating to improve the look and scratch resistance. It will probably have a very dark color.
