    That's worth saying twice.

  • Trump's new China trade deal is still bad for US business & consumers

    Interesting article.

As we’ve seen in this admin, things are always in motion and never stuck in the mud.

So we will see how these deals turn out for the long term benefit of America.

But one thing is for certain: something msjor had to be done. Constantly losing ground to other nations was not sustainable. Sure, you might get a cheaper iPhone today, but you may not even be able to get an iPhone tomorrow.

I’ll take long term over short term any day.
Creating chaos, flip-flopping through incoherent policy positions and then declaring victory after negotiating back some of the damage they’ve done are all one hundred percent “short term” actions.

It’s laughable that you try to spin ‘setting everything on fire because something major had to be done’ as a path to better long term results.

  • Car makers reject CarPlay Ultra as an Apple overreach

it is ludicrous for a car manufacturer to give Apple access to all its car systems, which will invariably lead to Apple becoming the gatekeeper to the entire tech stack of a car. This in addition to the branding impact. CarPlay is not the end of evolution, for example, the music app is well on CarPlay. Audi music controls are much better.
Who said all? We’re talking about user-facing information systems. Car manufacturers have farmed out components and subsystems from day one. Brakes, batteries, transmissions, gauges, radios, generators, on and on. More to the point, putting Bose, Harmon-Kardon and many other name brand audio systems is a selling point. Why should this be any different?
CarPlay Ultra is not just the display of car metrics, it also is the interface with, e.g., A/C, suspension settings, drive modes, alarm modes, etc. Apple CarPlay Ultra is upstream from the control systems and chips; before long, Apple will be dictating which chips the car manufacturers should use and what software architecture they should build. There is a big difference between buying batteries from Bosch and letting Apple control the central nervous system of the car.
Are you sure of that.  I thought CarPlayUltra is offering an API to the car internal system, but it does leave the choice of any car component to the car manufacturer.

But I do agree that car manufacturers are reluctant to hand over control to an external party who manages the display and its UI for everything that is not music.  What if  Car Play Ultra drives, for whatever reason, a car critical component in a such a way that the car is about to crash.  Who will take responsibility?

The car manufacturer might not have the best skill to develop a great UI on a touch screen, but a car manufacturer has much higher skill level  than Apple when it comes to handling car critical exceptions in real time.
I'm pretty sure that's not what Ultra is meant to do. It will Apple-ize the instrument cluster display (with carmaker-branded customization) and perhaps let you control some things like A/C via touchscreen or Siri, but I don't think they're moving control of features like adaptive cruise control, emergency braking or lane assist onto your iPhone. Displays related to these things might be tweaked with Apple fonts and color schemes, but the features themselves would still live in the car, and revert to the car's default display if your iPhone crashed while you're driving. I'm pretty sure the carmakers' and and Apple's lawyers would be in complete agreement about that.

  • Trump Mobile drops false 'made in America' promise

What I don't get is why would TMobile allow its website to be used to publish lies? It hurts TMobile's brand.

Anybody with sense knew from the start that that phone wasn't gonna be made in the US.
First, it's not T-mobile's website. Trump Mobile is a "Mobile Virtual Network Operator" that would presumably lease access at wholesale from T-mobile's cellular network. As with much else the Trump Org does, they don't make anything, but rather slap a gold T on lease deals.

As for T-mobile's willingness to be involved in any manor whatsoever, put yourself in their shoes. They're regulated by the FCC, part of a government currently ruled by Donald Trump's fiats through social media and executive orders. When Eric and Don Jr showed up at T-mobile wanting to do an MVNO lease, what were they going to do, say no and risk an arbitrary executive order screwing with their business, or the FCC suddenly announcing some sort of "investigation"?

This is why, even if Trump Mobile was otherwise legit and not some sort of grift, it shouldn't exist anyway. Any of the other 45 presidents in US history would face impeachment for that level of conflict-of-interest alone. For this one, it's just another Wednesday.

This is an APPLEINSIDER top story?  What does this have to do with Apple? Are there not already enough websites spreading political division and hate?
    Absolutely concur!

Thanks Appleinsider for a completely useless article that serves no other purpose than to bash the President of the United States.  As a Veteran that has served under several Presidents with different ideologies - what has happened to America where all we do is bash our dully elected leaders simply because we are of different opinions.

This Country simply lacks pride and this stupid article just showed its true colors.

    Idiots.
It's not an opinion to state the fact that the Trump Org has backed off the false claim that their T1 phone would be built in the US, or that the T1 phone and Trump Mobile itself are at best a crass move by the family of the President to profit off his presidency.

I have enough pride in this country to say that the whole thing is at best below the dignity of the Office of the President, and it is a disservice that President Trump has not publicly objected to it and asked his sons to shut the whole embarrassing thing down. I also have enough pride in the country to observe that this isn't just a crass faux pas, but yet another grift where the President himself is seeking to profit off the presidency in an activity rife with deep conflicts of interest as he takes executive actions that will affect competitors to this new "business." My pride in the country demands that this should stop and the people sullying our government be held to account for it.
