  • Trump Mobile's made-in-US iPhone 17 competitor is really made in China

If they’re building a phone in the US to sell in a couple of months, they should be able to provide tours of the factory that would have to be up and running right now, right?

I’m sure @9secondkox2 can fill us in on how all this has to be part of the well thought out plan.

  • Apple may need to acquire AI firms to boost Apple Intelligence

I agree that Apple’s early AI announcements were probably a misstep, a rushed effort to plant a flag amidst all the AI hype.

I also think their course correction and current stance of waiting until they get it right is a return to core values. If they do acquire other AI firms, it’s not going to be out of hurried panic, but because an acquisition brings something that helps the goal of getting it right.

I suspect this year is likely to bring pratfalls and face plants from some of the other leading purveyors of AI, because there is an AI bubble, including a huge real-world feedback loop of AI hallucinations and bad information that the current LLM AI models have created for themselves. Their AI is going to get worse, not better, and there will be a threshold where even regular consumers will realize it.

If Apple then arrives with a more focused and reliable system, we’ll see history repeat itself once again.

  • Apple now expected to unveil HomeOS, related hardware ahead of 2026 WWDC

I feel that's gonna do it for me.

I've been using HomeKit exclusively for some years now. But there are too many capabilities and too many devices which escape HomeKit and Siri.

I'm going to have to begin shifting away from HomeKit and toward Alexa just to be able to fully utilize many of the capabilities of the devices I already own.
I’ve been using HomeKit for quite some time. It does what it does quite well, and very reliably. For further advances, I am content to wait for the next generation thing that still won’t turn every query into an ad, and that makes artificial intelligence useful, without relying on the hot garbage of hallucinatory mimicry that the other companies are foisting on the world. Apple proves over and over that first is not a substitute for best, and still people forget that and succumb to the half-baked bells and whistles FOMO delivers.

    Because of Siri.

Siri please just retire and leave us to ask something else that understands our speech and doesn’t talk back to us like we don’t know what we are talking about. Using Siri is like being in a relationship with a psychopath who plays dumb to get you to be upset with them.
So you feel Apple should call the Siri upgrade something else when it comes out? Interesting.

  • Hands on with all the new CarPlay features in iOS 26

So, will all cars with CarPlay get updated to CarPlay 26? Or do you have to have an iPhone with iOS26 to get the newer CarPlay?
From the title, sounds like you have to have an iPhone with ios26.
CarPlay lives in the iPhone. The screen in your car is just a ‘dumb terminal,’ so the iPhone has to be upgraded to iOS 26 to get the upgraded version of CarPlay.

  • Passthrough audio is finally on the way to Apple TV, iPhone, and more

Interesting. Would this mean that, assuming you have the right audio gear downstream, an existing AppleTV 4K could play Apple Music at full 24-bit/192 kHz resolution, simply by sending the audio straight through? That would be nice.
