  • Apple Watch Series 4 fall detection summons emergency services, saves elderly man

That’s why my octogenarian mom now has one. Glad to know it works as advertised.

I wonder if emergency services arrived before family members, and if so, whether they broke into the house to respond? I’ve often wondered what would happen in such a situation where the Apple Watch is doing the calling, not an actual person.
If you're planning for such things, there's a thing called a "knox box," which is a key safe that's mounted outside, and first responders have the master key to get into the knox box. There are anti-tampering alarm options to assure they're not used for surreptitious access. They're common for commercial buildings, but can also be used at residences. They're probably not a bad idea where vulnerable residents live inside, or even for residences where the occupants are often away. So you could strap an Apple Watch on grandma and mount a knox box outside, and you've got an emergency safety plan in place that doesn't involve smashing down the front door.

  • Apple was told about Group FaceTime privacy bug more than a week before closing access

Apple has become a turgid bueocracy under Tim Cook.
    Fire him.
If Steve Jobs were still alive, he would have shut the company down and imprisoned the entire engineering team in Siberia as soon as the first tweet about this bug was sent. Then he would've bought back every defective Apple product that had FaceTime installed, and thrown them into a volcano. Then he would have started an entirely new company where he would single-handedly invent, build and sell new game-changer tech gear on a bi-weekly basis. These mystical devices would be perfect, of course, and would sell by the hundreds of millions, instantly.

  • Even with all the improvements to the iPad Pro, it still can't replace my Mac yet

Oh, good grief. How many times does Apple have to say that they have no interest in making a hybrid tablet/laptop for people to believe them?

If you want a powerful tablet that is still intended to be a tablet, buy an iPad Pro. If you want a great laptop, buy a MacBook. If you want a device that has all sorts of stuff shoehorned into it so that it’s all things to all people, buy a Surface or third-party windows box.

The folks at Apple have looked at the Surface, raised an eyebrow and clearly said, “why would we want to do that?” It’s a good question, because those things end up being jacks-of-all-trades-but-masters-of-none. That isn’t what Apple does.

  • Apple Watch Series 4 teardown shows slight battery increase, svelte new components

Yea but my daughter's battery won't hold a charge, was full charged by 4 hours of hardly any use it was down to 26% took it to Apple but they didn't have a replacement for it now she may not get the next one until November....
You should give it a few days. New user enthusiasm can drain a battery, as can simply completing the initial installation of all the apps, data, etc. Your daughter could have a dud, or she could find that battery performance goes back to normal after the first day.

  • Apple brings AirPlay 2 to Mac with the release of macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

For what it’s worth, from a MBP in iTunes running 10.13.6, I was able to simultaneously link up an ATV, a HomePod and a 1st generation AirPort Express. That option doesn’t work in iOS 12.4.1., however.
