  • iPhone, Android apps share sensitive health, financial data with Facebook without user's k...

I'm not expecting a particularly stellar response, but this is what I've just sent to Azumio:

I am very disappointed to discover from recent reports that apparently you have been sending my personal health data to Facebook. I am a resident of the UK, and regardless of any terms and conditions you may consider cover this behaviour, you should be aware that personal data of this sort is protected under the GDPR in the European Union. I request that you respond with a full copy of all data you have shared with Facebook, in compliance with GDPR regulations. I have deleted my copies of Sleep Time and Heart Rate from my iOS devices, and do not intend to use your software again.

Obviously they won't have a copy of my health data (or at least I hope they don't!) but the fact they won't be able to supply it makes them even more culpable as far as GDPR regulations are concerned. We'll see what they say, if anything...

  • Siri heckles UK defense secretary in parliamentary debate

The problem here is that he was talking about Syria. There only needs to be an "a" in front of it (such as "A Syrian solution" etc) to almost certainly trigger Siri...

  • Inside Consumer Reports: How iPhone, iPad, Mac, and HomePod testing is performed

The article implies that an anechoic chamber and a soundproof room are the same thing - they're not. There's often overlap: anechoic chambers have to be soundproof, but not the other way around.

An anechoic chamber has zero reverberation - that is, any sound is absorbed completely by the walls. A soundproof room can be highly resonant, soundproof just means no sound gets out. Recording studios tend not to be anechoic (although the vocal booth frequently gets close) but they are always soundproof.

To all intents and purposes a wide open space at altitude is anechoic - the sound has nothing to bounce off, so there's no return - but it's definitely not soundproof!

  • Apple to house 1,400 employees at London's restored Battersea Power Station starting in 2021

Artist's impression of the building/site once fully completed in circa 2021. Apple will lease 6 floors of the available office space.
Very nice although I am conflicted over whether I feel the chimneys should be removed or not.    Perhaps if they can be put to an obviously new use but if just a reminder of the coal age I'm not so sure.  I of course realize they represent an (in)famous visual land mark too, hence my inner conflict.

Oh and the helipad seems missing.
I'm sure they wouldn't be permitted to remove the smokestacks. It's Grade II* listed, which means the exterior cannot be substantially altered, repairs must be made with original materials in the same fashion as the original etc. There are also rules about the interior with grade II* listings, but they've clearly been granted an exemption relating to the fact that its use is being substantially altered.

  • Actually, there is something new about Apple's upcoming iPhone 7

"Telling a story succinctly is not my core competency"

    You don't say... :)

A lot of this article is good, but I feel that if you're going to accuse others of spin, it's important you not do so yourself. 4.5 stars is not "nearly twice" 3, it's only 1.5 times. And while many manufacturers have modifies the 3.5mm jack in various ways, Apple included, the point is that both standard stereo headphones, as well as high-end headphones, were compatible with all. That's why it seems crazy to change it. I suspect it may also, re. your final point, be in part why the SE is selling so well. It was certainly a major factor in my decision to get one.
