  • A8, A8X: How Apple's custom silicon hit Samsung with a one-two punch

Apple’s A series success is less about the Fab making the chips, and more about performance.  Samsung decided the # of cores was king (probably the marketing department).  Apple focused on optimizing 1 & 2 core performance.  In addition Apple was in a unique position to optimize the software with the hardware.  When performance testing, and side by side tests were done, Apple blew away the competition.  Apple’s design team never stopped innovating.

The decision to develop their own in-house graphics processors was the latest move keeping them a generation ahead in performance.  Samsung and everyone else, peaks in midrange phones as a result. Their only response is piling in more ram, which has diminishing returns in performance, and adds costs.

  • T-Mobile and Sprint revise merger terms, seek to close deal by April

So... let me get this straight.

A new 4th wireless carrier will be created to appease regulators, which will be Dish Network.

Not mentioned here is the assumed inevitability of Disk Network merging with DirecTV which is owned by AT&T.

Bringing it back to 3 major wireless carriers... the very thing regulators feared would reduce competition and harm consumers.

Sounds like a great idea! /s
Regulators shouldn't allow a merger or acquisition of Dish Network. They already allowed Dish to BS around with spectrum squatting.
You’d think so, but Dish is hemorrhaging subscribers.  Soon the spectrum is going to be most of Dish’s value.  By the time the merger of Dish and DirecTV gets in front of regulators, they’ll allow it to avoid a Dish bankruptcy.  It will be the same reason Sprint is being allowed to merge with T-mobile.

The 3 wireless providers are laughing their asses off. Between economy of scale and spectrum ownership a 4th carrier won’t be able to emerge.  Lack of competition will mean more $$$ out of consumers pockets...

Unless you’re preying for competition from Google’s WiFi blimps... LOL

  • Rumor: 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro rates 10nm Intel Ice Lake processor

If Apple continues with the 13” MacBook Pro, it would be stupid on their part. If they want to keep a 13” laptop, keep the MacBook Air as the 13” laptop. The new smaller MacBook Pro should be 14”.

The 16” MacBook Pro is not a portable laptop. It’s too big. It’s a great machine to use as a desktop replacement, but it’s not something I would want to carry with me when walking around town.

The 13” screen is too small to have several windows side by side. The 14” is a perfect combination of portability and screen space.
Or, you could just plug in a monitor.  The 13” being small/portable is the whole point...
