Watch that video. It's a delightful use of 18 minutes. At the end there is an interview with the Aston Martin design chief.

Before watching the video I hadn't realized that this Car Play Ultra is essentially an SDK for car makers to design their own screens (with a ton of pre-built stuff Apple provides). It's not Apple designing the interface for a particular manufacturer (although it's clear from the interview that in the A-M case it was a joint design effort).

Also, it's cool that owners of late model A-Ms will be able to get upgrades to add Apple Play Ultra retroactively.

I do agree that "impossible" should be avoiding in favor of a more accurate term like "economically infeasible."

Obviously it's not "impossible" to make iPhones in the US. They might be as scarce and expensive as a Hermes handbag, but not impossible.

The incentive is the original incentive for the App Store in the first place: to make iPhones a more appealing products.

Having said that, if Apple were precluded from mandating the payment mechanism in the first place, Apple would have charged some other fee for the privilege on being on their platform (like every developer who sells games for the PS5, etc. does to be part of that ecosystem). So I see no reason why Apple shouldn't be able to do that with Epic in this case. Win-win, right?

I'm surprised you say "its platform." It almost seems like you're conceding that the App Store is something Apple created and controls rather than a natural human right that Apple is obligated to manage for the public good.
