M1 benchmarks prove Apple Silicon outclasses nearly all current Intel Mac chips
dewme said:The MacBook Pro's slight advantage over the Mac Mini tells me that Apple could probably tweak a lot more performance from the Mini if they were willing to sacrifice a bit on its aesthetics to have a more aggressive thermal management subsystem. Maybe a mini cheese grater design rather than the current cigar box design?
What these results tell me is that the M1 chip inside all the new Macs are identical (except in terms of memory and that sadly disabled 8th GPU core in the entry-level air), and that (unlike the very first MacBook Air, way back when) the lack of a fan not a huge deal (9% difference at 10 minutes, 18% different at 30 minutes). -
Apple introduces new Apple Silicon Mac mini with $699 price tag

Developers on who can move to Apple Silicon - and who should wait
You know what's interesting about that orginal Apple Silicon Power x Performance slide? I'm sure it's not an accident that the "blue area" (that shows where Apple Silicon will appear) is entirely above the box for "Notebooks." I read this as a commitment that every Apple Silicon Mac will at minimum match the performance of the fastest MacBook Pros currently sold. That's a bold assertion. I'm looking forward to hearing more about this next week. It's possible that the slide is misleading in this way, but I doubt it. -
Amazon says users don't own content bought on Prime Video
BTW, here are the relevant parts of Apple's TOS for video purchases:
https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/us/terms.html
"- It is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage Content once downloaded. We encourage you to back up your Content regularly."
"You may be limited in the amount of Content you may download, and some downloaded Content may expire after a given amount of time after downloaded or first played. Certain Content may not be available for download at all."
"You may be able to redownload previously acquired Content (“Redownload”) to your devices that are signed in with the same Apple ID (“Associated Devices”). ... Content may not be available for Redownload if that Content is no longer offered on our Services."
Seems crystal clear that Apple would make exactly the same argument that Amazon is reported to have made, and the terms of use easily back them up. As everyone in this thread has pointed out, "buying" content online isn't exactly the same as buying a CD, DVD, etc. (It's also not like buying a house or a puppy or a ticket to a concert.) -
