  • Oscars considering rule change to lock out Apple & Netflix

I heard a rumor on a podcast that Apple is working on their relationships with film makers and may be promising to put their films in theaters for a full month. How many markets was not discussed, but it sounded like they are will to normalize releases, and if anyone could afford that, it's Apple.

Personally, we are done with theaters. Ever before the pandemic, it was a bad experience. People think they are in their living rooms and act accordingly. I put together a 13-channel Dolby Atmos theater during the pandemic in our living room. We can wait a few weeks for new releases.

  • Netflix's cheapest plan is now available on Apple TV

Twenty bucks for 4K while other streaming services include it in their basic plan. What a ripoff.

  • Wozniak, Musk & more call for 'out-of-control' AI development pause

Woz and Musk? Hmm. I was kinda worried about the acceleration of AI. Now that a has-been and a nutcase megalomaniac have chimed in, I say full steam ahead, AI!

  • High durability lets iPhones & Androids maintain their value

"Android smartphones fare slightly better at maintaining good battery life"

I believe it. Android users use their phones mainly for communications and social media
. iPhone users use many more apps for many other purposes, so their batteries take much more of a beating. This is reflected in what apps are sold/downloaded in both platforms' app stores.

  • Apple Music Classical's best feature is lost on Apple's headphones

For some reason connecting my AudioTechnica M50x (DJ headphones of choice) sounds absolutely epic on my 16" MacBook Pro - way better than using them on the iPhone. Even though they're not classified high impendance ... not sure why. I guess it's analog and the MBP M1 has more power on that port.

Wireless headphones are slick but the sound is just very bad. I get a headache from my airpods, so while in theory they are a perfect product, in practice, they are damaging my health and that's not worth the convenience.
Starting with the 2021 Apple Silicon MacBook Pros, Apple really upped the game with the DAC capabilities of the headphone port. Before I got my 16-inch M1 Max, I used an external USB DAC. That became unnecessary, at least for me.
