Editorial: Apple faces entirely new challenges with Apple TV+
foregoneconclusion said:Apple spent $80 billion on stock buybacks last year, so I'm not sure why anyone would worry about the cost/budgeting for Apple TV+ in the near future.
What people worry about is more nuanced than that. It is worrisome to see Apple spending a lot of money to produce junk content that no one asked for, and then turning around and pretending that it is a huge success because they're counting every hardware purchase as a $60 year of TV. Despite the fact that no one has paid for it directly, and no one has willingly subscribed to it. After the first year when none of those people continue using it, they can hide all the dropoff by only reporting "new" subs, which will be in the tens of millions thanks to new hardware sales. This pollutes the entire industry with fraud.
What people actually want, we can't have, because Apple has failed under Eddy Cue to negotiate anything groundbreaking in the way of TV licensing:
- No subscription to iTunes Movies or TV Shows...of any kind. Fail.
- Apple TV Channels includes only small-time content providers and none of the top 3. Not even their own licensed catalog.
Because of these abject failures, Apple changed course and dumped the cash into this new plan, that no one wants, no one asked, no one will subscribe to, but will still be heralded as a major success, paving the way for more such delusions. -
Analysts raise forecasts on strong iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro sales
racerhomie3 said:These fools think too much about 5G. I haven’t seen anyone except geeks & industry nerds get excited about it. Maybe for IOT,medicine & cars its revolutionary ,but for phones I dont think it matters.
5G is another lame empty promise by the same people who brought you lame empty promises of 3G, 4G, and LTE.
- Not one of the previous generation networks reached anything near their theoretical potential.
- Not one of the previous generation networks reached respectable deployment coverage before being scrapped and abandoned in favor of the next thing.
- Not one of the previous generation networks made cellular data any less limited, or expensive.
What carriers should be doing is focusing on improving LTE coverage. LTE is more than good enough when you're in 5-bar territory. It isn't as good as Wi-Fi, and it doesn't have to be. Cellular just needs to bridge the gap between Wi-Fi Networks...no one should be relying it on. It is far too limited and expensive to be a serious primary service provider for anyone.
But instead, because of this ridiculous network turn over, cellular data really hasn't improved for anyone since 3G. It is still used in the same way, for the same things, and it is very susceptible to poor coverage. -
Don't update to iOS 13 just yet -- wait for iOS 13.1

iPad Pro 'final design mockup' shown with iPhone 11 Pro triple camera bump
melgross said:MplsP said:OMG - that camera bump is SO UGLY! I wouldn’t be caught dead with that iPad Pro! /s
Seriously, iPads, particularly the 12” pro, are not used for picture taking in the same manner as an iPhone so I’m not sure how much sense it makes to put the same camera cluster, although from a component supply perspective it may be easier/cheaper.
Face ID would be awesome, though.
