iPhone 15 Pro review three months later: Worth every penny
If your goal is to primarily shoot video or stills for a job, and really want to maximize battery, step one should be turning off the phone section entirely. Switch to Airplane mode and notice how long your battery lasts when the phone no longer needs to constantly ping and reconnect to all the cel towers in typical urban settings.
You should see a significant decrease in battery “draw down” until you turn your cel polling back on. Just a FWIW.

Tim Cook talks Apple innovation, health, and Steve Jobs in candid interview
timmillea said:I don't think Steve Jobs ever had a 'vision'. He started young and arrogant, believing in his superiority and ruthlessly exploiting the connections he had to make money. He got a little wiser with age and learned how to present himself better but he never lost his self-superiority or arrogance. Had he been an academic and shared his abilities at concept-level, his ideas would have been refined faster, improved and shared with the World for free, instead of just making money. He was a troubled individual made more extreme by his financial success. At least he used apple to bring us some great 'products' instead.
Cook is the ultimate logistics man, shortly to retire, who brought us the monstrosity of the Mac Studio. He also ejected Steve Job's equal, Johny Ive. The trajectory for Apple currently looks irrecoverable. Burn-up. -
Goldman Sachs credit card practices under investigation by US watchdog
One nice feature of the Apple Card is that using your Wallet App on an iPhone - as you dial your payment amount up on the circular payment dial, it changes color to give you a clear visual alert when the amount you’re submitting covers any carry forward balance and avoids interest charges. Of course some folks just clear their entire balance regularly, but if you have both recurring charges like product purchase installments and impulse purchases mixed into your balance, It’s a simple, but extremely useful UI design in service of not making payment amount mistakes. And clearly the APR will be different for each cardholder. If they had proposed 21% I simply wouldn’t have signed up. And have been quite glad I did. -
Mini LED 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro production begins
darkvader said:No thanks, not going to recommend anybody buy a laptop with built-in spyware. Those deeply damaged souls that form a market for that type crap get scabt sympathy from me — and I applaud Apples approach to using AI to fight it.From all I’ve read, their approach is limited, focused, targeted and subject appropriate. It’s not going to put any general netizens rights in jeopardy and they couldn’t care less about your “slippery slope” fantasies - cuz they’re focusing on protecting kids that ACTUALLY need these protections. I for one applaud Apple for understanding that these are massively serious issues AND that they can use their technology to actually make a difference for these tiny Victims. Good for you Apple. -
Apple named world's most valuable brand, beating Amazon and Google
This is really simple.
Brand value is when 10 shoppers stand in the Ketchup aisle at a grocery store.
Most will walk away with a major brand like Heinz or Hunts. Why? Because they’ve experienced positive reinforcement with purchases of that brand over the years. They’re accustomed to the tastes and texture that those brands have consistently delivered, likely since they were little kids.Yes, some “value shoppers” will choose less expensive “store brands or discount brands” — BUT, (and here’s the crux of things) in the real world, the actual sales of those “trusted brand” products - in open store shelf competition across all shoppers - will HUGELY out-perform the competition, month after month, year after year, decade after decade. That’s brand value. It’s studied, it’s measurable. It’s accepted by economists (and accounting standards as a tangible asset called “good will”) because it always holds true over time. Period.
