  • Editorial: Apple is playing the long game with Apple TV+ & Apple Arcade as it always does

Most folks posting don't seem to understand how a multi-billion dollar company has to operate.  They keep looking for every Apple event to be some sort of announcement of a new Grand Unifying Theory of how Apple is pivoting to an entirely new paradigm; hence their continual disappointment that Apple didn't announce they were no longer making computers, but have switched to teleporting people to other planets.  It doesn't work that way, however.  Instead, Apple has to continue to spend billions on maintaining and improving existing systems, while they spend billions on R and D to slowly integrate new products and technology.  They aren't a start up folks.

The announcements weren't earth shaking, but are smart solid developments that will continue to improve the overall value of the Apple ecosystem while bringing in billions more in profits to fund Apple's enormous investments in R and D to develop projects like Titan, AR, etc.

  • Apple's new 2019 iMacs deliver twice the speed as previous model, Vega graphics option

    Hmm,

    Just priced this kit:
    • 2018 Mac Mini i5 core-6 3.0 GHz, 8GB, 256 SSD
    • LG 27UK650-W
    • 32GB Corsair RAM
    • Anker bluetooth keyboard
    • Bluetooth mouse
Total comes to $1,635 before tax.

A just announced 27" new iMac equipped as follows is $1,999 before tax ($1,799 + $200 (Corsair RAM self installed):
    • i5 6-core 3.0 GHz, 8GB, 256 SSD, Radeon Pro 570X
    • 32GB Corsair RAM
Just presenting this as an example of my Mac Mini configuration vs. a just announced 27" iMac.

Mike W.  it would be great to see an in-depth comparison of Mac Mini versus new iMacs by AI.  Lots of us are contemplating choice.

  • Apple unveils 5th-gen iPad mini with Apple Pencil support, better Retina display

And it's still $399, now for half the storage as before. Talk about DOA release.
Who is this for exactly? The person who wants the cheapest way to get Apple support? Oh wait no that's the larger and better and cheaper 9.7" iPad at $329.

So its for the person who wants the smallest and least usable Apple Pencil support? What a joke.

Because no one is going to buy this as just an iPad, because its a terrible buy in that regard.

Let's track and see how this comes out.  Your prediction that no one is going to buy it as it's a terrible buy, or Apple's , who's sold several hundred million iPads, and tens of millions of iPad minis. likely prediction before they put it production that millions of customers will buy it.  I am going out on a limb, but I am going to lean toward Apple in this regard that millions of people in 2019 alone will disagree with you.

  • Spotify accuses Apple of anti-competitive practices in Europe over App Store restrictions

Ironic that Spotify, the largest streaming company in the world by a large margin, has achieved that by "stifling" smaller competitors by offering free music subscriptions. , now plays the victim.  More importantly, Spotify may rue the day that it filed this complaint, and aroused Apple's ire.  Spotify has always hemorrahged money and this while paying musicians among the worst royalties, but Apple can put a pin in the Spotify balloon simply by offering Apple Music in a bundle.  Spotify has had to match every Apple discount program (family, student, etc.) to stay in business as consumers choose music streaming overwhelmingly based on cost. Right now they are all pretty much the same, offering the same music (though Apple has a larger catalog and is available in more countries), so consumers have little reason to switch.  If Apple bundles AM with other services, Spotify will have little choice but to see out, which has been its real goal all along but this will hasten it and it's value will drop precipitously.
