Now the neural engine finally has a use case /s

I’m still on my Macbook Pro 15 inch from late 2016. Keyboard and logic board were replaced for free at the end of 2019 and it practically feels and looks like new. At this rate I expect to get another 3 years out of it, though I would love an excuse to switch over to a more energy efficient Apple Silicon model (right now I don’t really have any, though I dislike the butterfly keyboard and the touchbar).

The Mac Mini does not have a battery or do you mean power consumption?
The efficiency (performance/power consumption) is probably the hallmark feature of the M1.

I ask since the post mentions using the Mac with Intel chip running with Rosetta 2.  It would be interesting to see browser speed test results for the various permutations.

Anandtech has posted some benchmarks on this, with performance drops in the range of 5 to 50 percent, depending on the complexity of the code. (even with the performance drops, M1 performed better than many of the Intel Macs) I don’t recall that they looked at browsers specifically.

A good move. I wonder how much of the total revenue Apple makes from App-store commissions this will apply to.
