Advanced TrueDepth camera, Face ID "major drivers" of iPhone X user satisfaction
Not much satisfaction here, unfortunately. I did return the X and went back to an 8. Great screen and cam on the X, but the Face ID just does not work well for me at all. One cannot simply unlock the phone if it is flat on a table - you have to either lean in a lot or bring it up to your face. It does not recognize you with sunglasses, which necessitates punching in your code while driving during the day. Closing apps is quite cumbersome; getting to app switcher requires a little strange up-and-side gesture, etc, etc. Animoji are rather tasteless at this point too IMHO. Sorry again, but it all does not seem that well thought out - the high price of the unit is not justified at all. It even had an annoying bluetooth crackle in the car, which was not present with my old ones and went away once the 8 came in. Not to mention the crack-prone glass back and the silly black screen indent at the top - who wants to see that in their pic or movie?!? There is only info bars on both sides of it, which could sit very well on black background too... Perhaps Jony will get it better in time, however, for now a regular iPhone (I had the + for 2 years and it is awfully heavy) works better for me. 😉 -
Teardowns find Apple's 2017 MacBook & MacBook Pro models virtually unchanged in design
Apple guys - how big of an insult would be to have a second USB-C connector on the MacBook?!?!? You just updated the damn machine for the second time, why not address this - it IS a big handicap! The first gen MBA had a single USB - you fixed it pretty much right away. Here we're forced to use an atrocious white brick in order to be able to charge AND have an external drive connection... Not even mentioning the archaic 480p cam. Come on guys, this is really lame - please, take care of it!
