Apple Silicon Mac mini dev kit looks like a desktop iPad Pro
SkylightActive said:The GPU side of things...We always have the belief that a dedicated GPU will always be better than an integrated GPU. But what about if we are witnessing an industry transition?...Great first post and observation. The Apple Silicon GPU is still a big unknown, but the demo hinted at graphics performance much better than Intel's inbuilt GPU.Imagine if Apple Silicon can achieve close to RX580 performance with an inbuilt GPU. Only the video editors and gamers would complain, but prosumers should be ok. Apple Silicon will be on 5nm (RX580 is on 14nm), so I think you may be correct that an integrated GPU could be much better than people realize. And the iPad Pro graphics is no slouch (and with no active cooling). -
Apple unveils plans to ditch Intel chips in Macs for 'Apple Silicon'

ARM iMac, 13-inch MacBook Pro coming at end of 2020, says Ming-Chi Kuo

Moving to ARM is a 5 year head ache where in fact ARM will never match nor surpass AMD.Remember AMD's Athlon? That brief dominance didn't last. Zen looks more robust, but will it last 10+ years? Apple could be in same situation if Zen stagnates. If Apple design their own CPUs, they have no one but themselves to blame if the CPUs aren't competitive. Not to mention the control Apple will have (Rayz2016 mentioned this above). The risk/reward is in Apple's favor, IMO. -
Apple will prove it has silicon legs beyond ARM at WWDC 2020
Did Apple design their own chips for for the iPod at the end of its run? I believe Apple used someone else's chips at the start of the iPod run, but I don't know if they replaced them later.Edit: PortalPlayer, then Samsung, then A4.
