  • M2 Pro, M2 Max MacBook Pro models could arrive by the fall

I’m not getting near any M2 anything. The reviews I have seen show absolutely no consistency in both the CPU and GPU reviews. As a matter of fact I think it’s the worst Apple architecture we will see. Apple, fix your stupid mistakes!! Only one NAND chip on the lower end models is a complete design flaw and ultra cheap on your part. The GPU being slower on the 10 core then the 8 is inexcusable!! Stop and improve these mistakes please. And for Apple fanboys here who complain about me I’ve used Macs since 1989 making music on Cubase before many of you were in your mothers womb
Unfortunately, people watch these YouTube videos and come away with the notion that the M2 is somehow bad.  That's not the case.  The M2 is better than the M1 in every way.  HOWEVER, for a product like the MacBook Air that doesn't have active cooling, under heavy workloads for a considerable amount of time, it will eventually throttle performance with less than predictable results.  Realistically speaking, that's now how most people use their machines.  They typically run at a near idle level then sometimes peak to high levels of performance and then drop back down.  If you're really worried about sustained performance, buy a machine with active cooling to mitigate such things. MacBook Air users are not buying these machines for the purpose of sustained peak performance scenarios.

  • Periscope lens coming for iPhone 15 Pro

So, Samsung owns patents on a camera system and our stupid USPTO and corrupt courts in Texas will keep other companies from creating a similar camera system, something that was designed a couple centuries ago. I wouldn't call it a periscope lens module, I'd simply call it a miniature telephoto lens, something that every camera maker has built.
“There are varying ways to construct a periscope lens especially when it comes to how a company moves the lens’s barrel. Apple wants to use a ball actuator to move the lens barrel, which is in contrast to the spring actuator that it currently uses on its iPhones. Unfortunately for Apple, Samsung — who has a technical lead on the technology over Apple — holds that patent.”

“Faced with this issue, Apple will either have to change its entire design to avoid using the patented technology or will have to pay Samsung a fee to license the rights to the patent. Both are of course options for the tech giant, but it is likely not a choice the company was expecting to have to make.”

I wouldn't believe every story you read on this topic.  Apple has their own patents on a periscope lens design.

    GOOD!

His early stuff wasn't awful.  Everything he's touched for the last 15+ years has been.
Yeah... all that junk he touched that resulted in the fastest and highest AAPL.  Right?  All those countless Apple customers for the past 15+ years buying all those products when they shouldn't have.

Keep doing your revisionist stuff.  Maybe someday someone will believe you.
I think you’re missing the point of his post.  Jony was clearly a talented designer.  However, he’s an example of what happens when the designer has too much authority and is not kept in check.

The fundamental design of many of his products are great.  However, there are countless examples where he let function follow form.  He had an obsession with symmetry for example which led to the removal of important ports.  Thankfully, some of this has been reversed in recent products.  Then, there was the butterfly keyboard with his obsession for thinness, etc.  Seriously, Jony deserves equal amounts of praise and criticism.  If you can’t objectively see his obvious faults then you’re not being honest with yourself.

That's the 10 best?  Long way to go then.
Exactly.  Sadly, Apple thinks this is addressing the gaming market.

  • EU plans to require backdoor to encrypted messages for child protection

Notably, the UK government backed Apple's plans, albeit after Apple had withdrawn them, and chiefly as part of its own wish to get backdoors into end-to-end encryption.

This comment makes no sense as Apple's solution would NOT have provided a backdoor to end-to-end encryption.

The plan appears to propose that end-to-end encryption be broken by messaging service providers, in order to scan messages for CSAM.
That will fail.  You can't ban math.  There will be work-arounds and I'm sure this would be fought legally.  Unfortunately, you have technically illiterate beurocrats pushing for solutions they don't fully understand.
