  • Apple's Journal app is getting new features in iOS 18, but it's still not on iPad

I’d have like to have Journal on iPad and Mac because those are my main platforms for when I am going to sit down and jot down my thoughts for the day.

But, I am optimistic… it only took 14-odd years for Apple to port the Calculator app from iPhone to iPad… so I am expecting Journal app to be ported in more-or-less that same time frame

  • Alternative app marketplaces won't work outside of the EU

On device VPN apps may not circumvent this, but a router-based VPN should, as the traffic being sent to and from the iPhone will masked at the router level, so the iPhone shouldn't be any the wiser.
This does not make any sense… a router-based VPN is not going to change the location eligibility indicator that is generated on your iPhone and sent via the VPN to Apple’s servers… it will simply change the IP address based location - which Apple does not even use to determine eligibility.

  • Chrome beats Safari in Apple's Speedometer browser test

Anything can be faster if it gobbles up inordinate amount of resources. Safari on the other fast yet still efficient in its use of resources.
Agreed... a super fast browser that keeps the fans whirling at full speed and cuts the battery life significantly is not something I am excited about, unless I am working on something computationally intensive and know that I will be tethered to a mains power source for the duration of that process.

  • Apple execs excited about M1 Max MacBook Pro video editing capabilities

Yes that’s great. But it is still not possible to import Video from Sony SXS Cards. SXS Cards are used in Sony and Arri Broadcast and Cinema cameras

We are waiting since one year to get a updated device driver for SXS Cards.

Without this updated driver, the super fast M1 MacBook Pro is useless for our job. Ingesting Footage is impossible.

    So sad!

Yes... that is sad... but maybe Sony has a Vaio product that might be better last supporting Sony memory cards

  • Belkin Soundform Connect brings AirPlay 2 to any speaker

If you have a Raspberry Pi laying around, you can diy one with Shairport Sync for free. AND you get a Ethernet port.
As far as I am aware shairport-sync does not support AirPlay 2... which means that it will be very limited as an Airplay receiver. I have a few of those $39 Airplay receivers from Amazon. They are great as point solutions in a single room where you have powered speakers (and cost a whole lot less than a Raspberry Pi with case and power supply). But once you start to get some Airplay 2 devices into the house and start to enjoy some of those great features, the isolation of the Airplay devices becomes very frustrating - it is not possible for Airplay devices to be part of your whole home audio setup like Airplay 2 devices.
