  • Apple speeds up masked Face ID by detecting an Apple Watch in iOS 14.5

So, if someone steals your watch and your iphone that person can unlock your phone easily?

    Looks unsafe to me.

That will not work because as soon as you take your Apple Watch off your wrist it also locks... All that you will end up with is a locked Apple Watch and a locked iPhone.

You need to either unlock the iPhone in order to unlock the Apple Watch, or unlock the Apple Watch in order to unlock the iPhone.

Also you cannot sneak up on somebody to unlock their iPhone while they are wearing their Apple Watch, because the Watch unlock feature still needs Face ID on your iPhone to detect your open eyes above the face mask before it will even look for a nearby Apple Watch.

  • Mark Zuckerberg says 'competitive interests' drive Apple's push for privacy

"So when it comes to what matters most, protecting people's messages, I think that [our] WhatsApp is clearly superior," Mark Zuckerberg continued. "I do want to highlight that we increasingly see Apple as one of our biggest competitors.
I think that the facts speak for themselves...
    • Several independent reviews have indicated that Facebook Messenger is the worst violator of consumer privacy with 135 (one hundred and thirty five) consumer data points being vacuumed up by Facebook.
    • WhatsApp is a whole lot better, gobbling up only 25 (twenty five) consumer data points from usage of the app.
    • iMessenger is not wholly innocent in this regard as it pulls 4 (four) consumer data points which Apple arguably probably already has from your iCloud and Apple ID (i.e. email address, phone number, device id, and search history).
    • Signal needs 1 (one) item about you to work - your phone number. Researchers say, unlike other messaging apps, Signal makes no attempt to link your phone number to your identity.

  • iCloud Keychain coming to Google Chrome on Windows for the first time

This is a LONG time coming! Glad to see it. I'm surprised that Apple hasn't pushed this earlier. Maybe they were trying to keep it as a selling advantage for Safari, and I'm glad to see them do a course correction on that item.
I am not sure how delaying making iCloud Keychain available on Windows through the iCloud app could possibly be a selling advantage for Safari (which is not available on Windows). If anything, All my devices are Apple devices, but my work notebook is a Windows machine. I have had to adopt a cross platform password management solution because of this.

  • Apple Music adds animated album covers in iOS 14.3, macOS 11.1

Now that they’ve added this new feature maybe they can get back to finding a way to ensure that static album artwork shows up correctly.
Haven’t had an issue with that since Apple Music was called iTunes and I was using and iPod Video 5th generation.
Yes... this is definitely something that was resolved round about the time of the last iPod Classic (5th or 6th generation) more than 15 years ago.

dewme needs to consuder updating that black and white iPod mini to an iPod Touch... And... and he also need to upgrade from OS X Tiger to macOS Mojave (the last version that will run his old 32bit applications).

  • Cydia, the 'original iPhone App Store' is suing Apple over antitrust claims

    dewme said:
This claim is like a burglar suing you for changing the combination on your safe after he broke into it last month.
...and also accusing you of monopolising access to the contents of that safe.
