  • Apple App Store took 65% of the $112 billion spent on apps in 2020

Given how many apps use advertising as a revenue model, do these numbers really mean all that much?

Yes, they mean a lot. Because without revenue, the app store can't operate.
Sure it can. Both Apple and Google are more than capable of running app stores at a loss. Apple because they get revenue from hardware sales and Google because they get revenue from advertising sales. That's why I'm saying that the app store revenue alone is an incomplete and not particularly useful metric.
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard...

  • Apple Silicon iMac & MacBook Pro expected in 2021, 32-core Mac Pro in 2022

I presume this article is talking about 32 cores being on the same die. If true, that's good to hear. But don't see why Apple couldn't put multiple physical packages with N-cores each on the same system board. Moreover, Apple should do this as an expansion card for existing Intel Mac Pros so that Intel Mac Pros can run M1-apps natively.
For anyone paying attention to Apple over the last few years... and for anyone paying attention at their most recent product redesigns... Apple has clearly declared war on end-user replaceable or upgradable modularity. Apple Silicon gives them the ability to make a giant leap towards turning the Mac into a personal computing appliance. They will get close, but, in my opinion, they will never really accomplish that goal because it will be impossible to turn what is currently a general computing operating system that people can run almost anything that they want on, into a locked-down firmware-like OS that can only run apps that Apple has deemed worthy to be allowed.

Fewer and fewer Apple devices offer end-user upgradable storage, memory, CPU, GPU, etc. None of the latest Apple Silicon Macs offer any means for an end-user to upgrade or replace the CPU, Memory, Storage, GPU... or anything that was not originally ordered with the machine, for that matter. If you have an Intel Mac, you can install and run any recent version of macOS. On an Apple Silicon Mac, you can only install and run macOS Big Sur... macOS is likely to be the only end-user upgradable part of a Mac appliance in future.

  • New Apple TV+ thriller series 'Surface' to star Gugu Mbatha-Raw

That's an unusual given name. If they could get Lady Gaga to co-star, that would be "Gugu and Gaga." And the theme song for their show should be the Queen song that goes:
All we hear is radio ga ga
    Radio gu gu
    Radio ga ga
It's a fairly common name here in South Africa...
Gugu is short for Gugulethu (in Zulu), which I suppose could be directly translated to Precious in English.
Mbatha is also a fairly common Zulu surname... not like Smith or Jones, in the UK, but recognisable enough like Green or Roberts.
As for Raw... well... that is something she found somewhere in the UK and tacked onto her name at some point during her journey through life.

  • Apple execs talk M1, chip specs versus real-world performance in interview

The part where he lifted the lid to "prove" how fast it is - the most absurd way to demonstrate performance and you cannot even see anything when you open it, you have to use TouchID or enter passcode.
Seriously!? You must be a dinosaur. I can't remember when last I saw anybody type in an actual passcode to unlock a computer... even on a Windows PC (other than for a password change, when the network password expires). Just about everyone that I know has their Apple Watch linked to auto-unlock as soon as they get to their Mac. Even the Windows users in our office have their phone or watch linked to do the same using BlueTooth LE - it's not quite as slick as on a Mac, but it still beats typing out a long password every time you come back from the coffee machine, bathroom or meeting room... and you don't have to always remember to lock your computer each time you step away from it - especially for machines that do not have TouchID.

    And CarPlay! Don't forget CarPlay.
Indeed.  Including that is pretty sweet.  I do feel like they've done this one pretty comprehensively, instead of half-assed as they sometimes do some things.

I'm hoping this is a start of things to come. Amazon really stole Apple's idea and running with it while Apple watches in shock. Time for them to step up their game Apple style.

What about Apple TV support? Do you think there will be another Apple event for Macs and possibly a new Apple TV?

I think that there may be one more event later this year - probably in November. Earlier this year when they introduced the move to Apple Silicon Macs, they said that the first Apple Silicon powered Mac would ship by the end of this year (2020).

I think that the launch of the first-ever A-Series powered Mac (other than the A12Z powered Mac mini for developers) is going to be a big deal for Apple, productivity software developers like Adobe and Microsoft, game development studios, and more... There is surely going to be an event for that - assuming that they still intend to ship the first Apple Silicon Mac by the end of 2020.

Apple has to go all out to convince its entire ecosystem partners, developers and consumers that Apple Silicon is real, viable, and just as good as (or better than) Intel Silicon.
