  • Apple earmarks more than $6B for Apple TV+ shows in push to catch competitors

I think that it is great that Apple is committing wholeheartedly to its services push. Another source of quality content, other than HBO, Netflix, et al, is going to be great for viewers.

However, I hope that Apple is focusing on quality content... Making a big monetary bet on a few shows is not going to automatically translate into a blockbuster hit like Game of Thrones. Apple's recent services such as News+, have not felt like they received the traditional Apple attention to detail before they were shoved out to the public. If Apple repeats the same mistakes with TV+ they will lose the public's confidence like they did after the Maps fiasco.

Anyway, the few trailers that have been released are looking promising... I am looking forward to trying out the streaming service.

  • New iOS 13 feature uses Siri smarts to thwart spam calls

Why would this require Siri? It's simply referencing the incoming # against a database. It's extremely straightforward from an engineering perspective.
It needs Siri because it is not just limited referencing numbers in your contacts database.

In the same same way that Siri makes recommendations about appointments, new contacts, reminds you to call people back, etc. Siri is used to reference the incoming number across numerous possible prior contacts through which you might have had an interaction with the callers such as:
    • You may have exchanged a few emails with them a while ago, but did not add their details, to your contacts database
    • You may have called the number a few times recently, but did not add the number to your contacts
    • The caller’s number range may be within your corporate PBX number range making it likely to be business related.
    • Etc.
More importantly, how you respond to numbers found in bills, marketing brochures, discount coupons, travel itineraries hotel, car hire and airline booking, etc. that Siri may find in your inbox, notes, documents, spreadsheets, etc. is different to how the next person would... So some ML to help the AI figure out what works for you and may work differently for me is important.

Otherwise it will simply be a dumb mechanical reference lookup that treats every unknown call in exactly the same way for everybody. That may be good enough for you, but it is going to be quickly disabled when it starts screening out important calls from patients, investment brokers, journalists, work colleagues, clients. etc.

  • Spotify begins testing 'Car Thing' voice assistant accessory

If Apple stopped being such idiots and allowed Siri to control Spotify this would be totally unnecessary
Nothing stops Spotify from making their own voice assistant and either building it into the Spotify app or releasing it as a stand alone app. This is what the other mainstream music streaming services (Amazon and Google) have done.

Spotify just want everything for free... free global app distribution, free global payment services, free foreign exchange repatriation to a currency of their choice, free tax compliance in every country where they collect money, free application development frameworks with which to build their apps, free global promotion of their app in the App Store, free this and free that.

And if they are too lazy to build in voice command into their own app, then integrate with Siri Shortcuts like thousands of other apps already have... then users will be able to use Hey Siri commands to control Spotify.

Without the App Store there would be no Spotify... but the App Store would still be just fine without Spotify.

  • Apple boycott by Chinese firms supporting Huawei is escalating

Kick China out of the WTO now.
The WTO would cease to exist as a functioning mulitaleral organisation if it started ejecting members for political reasons that have nothing with global trade.

Chinese companies encouraging employees to Buy Huawei products instead of a rival’s products is no different from American companies encouraging their employees to boycott Apple products and buy rival Android products - as Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, is reported to have done, recently.

  • The myth of Apple's impossibly difficult (yet super easy) hardware business

Formula 1 race drivers make driving around a race track look easy
NBA players make throwing a ball into a 3 metre high hoop look easy
Baseball players make hitting a little ball with a fat stick look easy

Apple makes the design, manufacture and distribution of high end consumer electronics hardware look easy

If all the above is that easy, then these so called experts should give it a try
