  • Apple Pay launches in Germany with support for 15 banks and services

Great! Step one is complete.  Now hopefully the bigger banks and credit unions here will start getting on board in 2019 (step 2).  To really be successful they need Sparkasse, RV bank, Commerzbank, PostBank, and a few big online banks like DKB.  They don't have to start all at once, but once one of those starts offering ApplePay the rest will fall in line.

  • Apple begins selling 18W USB-C power adapter separately for iPhones & iPads

I thought you needed an adapter 29W or higher to fast charge a compatible iPhone?   This article from Apple does not include a 18W adapter as a recommended charger.

The lists of supported devices for the 30W and the 18W chargers are the same. I would guess Apple will be updating the kb article you posted in due time. What would be nice is if AI could repeat their Fast-charging tests with this new charger to see if there is a significant difference in charging times with the 18W vs the 30W. I can’t imagine there would be a big difference for the phone, but maybe for the iPads Pro. I would also like to see data for the gen 6 iPad; even though it doesn’t offer fast-charging it may get some improvement over the included 10W charger.

  • Apple Pay now available in Belgium and Kazakhstan

Oh boy! LOL.  Take that Germany! You were just beaten to the 21st century (as far as payment methods go) by Kahzakstan, KHAZAKSTAN! hahaha!  Like I said in previous posts, moving here to Germany was in some ways like traveling back in time, but this just beats all.  Borat is now simultaneously laughing at you and afraid for you (of you?).

Using OWC's SoftRaid to give back RAID support that was stripped from macOS
I’m not sure exactly what is meant by this rather vague statement, but if the allusion is to MacOS’s ability to create a software RAID, this is not only out dated info, but was only ever half true to begin with. Due to some “makeover” work for Disk Utility in El Capitan, the GUI version of Disk Utility did indeed have the features for RAID management (including creation of Software RAIDs) altered and reduced. The ability to make a software RAID from the command line was never removed (or “stripped from macOS in the author’s parlance).

Most RAID management features were readded with Sierra over 2 years ago.

Apple has a knowledge base article with the steps For creating disk sets with Disk Utility in High Sierra and Mojave here https://support.apple.com/guide/disk-utility/create-a-disk-set-dskua23150fd/mac

  • iPhone XR demand reportedly forcing Apple to cut production expansion plans

The XR’s biggest problem is its size. I know people who have said they no longer have an upgrade path from either a 6/6S/7 etc as they don’t want a bigger phone and the XS is too expensive. The 8 is the only option for them and it’s not much of an upgrade. My wife is one of them. She would (and is) buying nothing instead which is a lost sale for Apple as she really wanted to upgrade.
Agreed. My daughter has a 7 which is losing its battery capacity but does not want anything bigger. The 8 is the end of the (current) road for her.
Sounds like a fresh battery may be a good way to tide her over until new models crop up next year.  If you act before the end of the year you can get the battery replaced directly from Apple for $29 (and $49 thereafter).  I'll likely be doing the same for my wife's SE (creeping up on that 80% threshold after 2 years).
